European truck bans

If the bans are on religous holidays, due to high car volume traffic before and after the holiday,to reduce accidents, why have non christian members of the transport industry not objected to not being allowed to travel when a ban in is force. For example a hindu or muslim driver parked up.Or when a ramadan or a jewish holiday was in force, all christian drivers are parked up untill 22.00.And not pursued human rights claim compenstions.Does anyone know why most of EU transport regulations are drawn up in France,as in ADR(Accord dangerous materials par route),and CMR (Certificate de maritime et routiers),and TIR(Transports Internationaux routiers),and so on.Maybe because France being a transit country.

Hi Toby, I think you might have missed the spirit of what’s going on…

European truck driving bans are based on the size and/or the use of the vehicle.
Neither the nationality of the owner/driver, nor his/her religion have anything to do with it. On your point of “not being allowed to travel,” there’s actually no prohibition on the person travelling, again, it’s the vehicle that’s prohibited.

For what you wrote, read instead: all drivers are parked up regardless of their religion, because of the size of their vehicle.
I don’t think a compensation claim for discrimination would succeed, because the ban isn’t based on ethnicity, skin colour, religion etc.

ADR is… Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route

…and in English ADR is…The European Agreement concerning the international carriage of Dangerous goods by Road

CMR is: Convention relative au contrat de transport international de Marchandises par Route

…and in English, CMR is: Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road.
I’m not sure where you got your version of what CMR stands for, but in the context of international road transport, it isn’t correct.

The language ‘thing’ shouldn’t be a worry, because all these laws and agreements are very precisely translated and certified as such by very trustworthy bodies, usually the law giver, such as the EU or UNECE.

you’ve got some serious problems to occupy your mind with :unamused:
Don’t you think all non-jews should claim compensations for all Saturday bans? As Sat is day off for the Jews… And all non-muslims should claim for all Friday bans, as Fri is day off for the Muslims… Certainly this would enable the drivers to change their religion on the go to make the most of their driving hours. or would there be a(-nother) digiholoencrypted card “certificate of religion”? :unamused:

BTW, those agreements (TIR, CMR, ADR etc) were not drawn in France but in the UN in Geneva, Switzerland, and they are in French because French is the official language of the UN.

I went to the local fish shop on Good Friday and couldn’t get parked for all the sandal wearing bearded people queuing for the mosque. Iman perfect world we would all have every Friday off

As for French name: there was something called “Luxemburg convention” about road traffic, and it was in French. That’s why I had on my old Polish License “Prawo Jazdy” and “Permit de conduire” and no English equivalent. It was long time ago and I might mixed something, but I am sure that there is a reason why some things are still called from French.

i’ve often wondered when somebody would challenge the french government in court on human rights isuue over overtaking bans
if you drive along the n10 and a63 between spain and bordeaux in a car you can overtake when you like but a truck driver can’t.
now i understand certain times of day for people getting to and from work but all day? isn’t it discriminating against lorry drivers who generally pay more road taxes and fuel duty anyway?

I think that amount of cars held up behind overtaking lorries pays more taxes if counted together

I was always led to believe that the EU was set up to allow the free movement of goods between member states, now correct me if I’m wrong the majority of goods is still transported by road.

So the French, Germans and Italians and any other country that has movement bans is going against what the EU was set up for.

By my reasoning if one country has a truck ban all countries should have a truck ban or non should, that would be the fair thing to do, and if the French want to ban truck movemnets on Sunday it should be all trucks not just non perishable goods.
Let the frogs go with out fresh milk, fish , bread on a Monday.
