European freightbus london

ive got a book with a picture in it of a transconti drawbar of theres and ive found a few pics on a trucpics site of a couple of transcontis and a scanny 141 they looked a smart outfit just wondered if there still going in one form or another

The name rings a bell…are they all black with (possibly) red tilt bodies?

Remember the name from the early 80`s, a black Transcon left ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  draw bar outfit. Thought they ran out of either New Brighton or Manchester though.

Sorry I cant be of more help.

Bullitt.

PS…Could well be getting confused with ā€œEuroBusā€ maybe!!!

yeah bullit thems the one black transconti drawbar with red stripe on the cab and a red tilt cover

i think they used to based on top of the blackwell tunnell i used to move fruit & produce around the uk in the 80s . and this company used to bring it in from europe

nice pic that marky

They used to be on top of the blackwall tunnel and did mostly european work…however there was another depot in bermondsey/rotherhithe area…but i think its only warehousing and the work is subbed out. they also had a tie up with visbeen of holland.

European frieghtbus was owned by Charlie Prothero they did belgium hollond germany, mainly there depot was at blackwall the other place in rotherithe was where they loaded that later became rose spedition at rainham eesex. The transcon road train was a left ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  driven by wally tovey who has sadly passed away around 1995.The 141 was driven by tommy peak tom used to own the 141 before f/bus he had it on tanks out of east india docks for a firm called Eissel shipping which also ran as H A Harrison they had an F89.Tom 141 was origenaly red before the 141 he and his dad also named Tom had 111 scania on martintrux for years.Charlie has passed away a few months ago his son Derek who also used to drive for his dad now works for don collison.I have done some two man austria,s with derek years ago when he was pulling for europa he is a great guy and a really good driver. My cousin Tony Harris also drove for F/Bus and my uncle Terry Britton who has also passed away this year,Bobby King Nick the Greek Bobby tarrant from green dragon fame they were a great bunch many a good nite in the hook of holland bar in rotterdam.

just like to get some stats right charlie prothero never owned EFB he was a subbiei in EBS colours and the yard was in ilderton road just off the old kent road. and nick the greek never worked there also rose spedition was a completly differrent outfit to EFB it was started by two managers of EBS
who were colin and chris rose

Well, apart from those one or two errors your man nearly got it right.

and chris rose i work with everyday of the week   sadly colin died a few years ago.

CRACK ON TO MACON:

You are correct charlie only did the traction i spoke to derek today and he will correct my errors when he registers.Chris rose was at rainham after efb and dereks globetrotter F12 had their name on it Nic did do a bit of ocaisional driveing but was,nt full time.As you probably know Chris Rose went on to Enterprise at swanley then they went to aylesford, sorry if i missled you.

I’d like to get some fact right about European Freightbus. All the tractor units and trailers were owned by various hauliers. The main hauliers being CWP (Transport) Ltd, whose yards were at Greenwich in Ordance Wharf and Delta Wharf.
European Freightbus owned nothing and when that company went bankrupt paid none of there creditors of which CWP was one. (European Freightbus, closed on a Thursday and it’s md opened on the following week as Eurotraffic, hauliers beware!!!)
CWP originally were fruit hauliers based in London, with the decline of the London docks and the growth of the EEC they started to collect fruit and veg from Holland and Britanney, they were looking for export traffic to these areas and were introduced to European Freightbus. They started to work with European Freightbus and after a few years the international groupage side of the business over took the fruit haulage, althought they still had some vehicles doing domestic fruit distribution.
After EFB went belly-up CWP started working with Rose Spedition, Europa and Danzas.
The fleet comprised of Scania 140/141/111 then 142/112, Ford transcontinentals with 310 and 290 ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  and one 6 x 4 transcon’ roadtrain with a 350 ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  and at the end some Volvo F12 globetrotters.
The company ceased trading in the early 90’s.

The final point that I’d like to correct is that it’s Charles Walter Protheroe (with the e on the end).
