Europe by country 2010

 Hi, we run to Bosnia / Balkans every month. We try to cross Luxembourg every trip as the diesel is cheapest there. Here’s some more Info / Edits / Additions / Updates.

Bosnia Hercegovina: Headlights at all times, no tolls, Green Card needed. :frowning:

Slovenia. Headlights at all times, weekly Vignette for under 3.5 tonnes is €15.00

Croatia. Headlights at all times. Beware of journey down the coast to Dubrovnik as you pass through approx 20Km of Bosnia Hercegovina (either side of Neum) so need Green Card for BiH.

Austria. 10 day Vignette for under 3.5 tonnes is €7.90

This is a great thread, we must try our best to keep it accurate and updated.

Update Bulgaria . Headlights on day and night and restricted driving during very hot days.

Thanks for all this invaluable info guys, very much appreciated by a relative newbie like me.

I do find it astounding that this mess exists, it must surely be a case of downright laziness that they can’t get their acts together and sort things out. In this day and age of instant, cheap and pervasive telecommunications and the relatively cheap ways of putting it all together, they really should sort it out, problem is it will probably lead to a rise in tolls and vignette charges rather than the reduction such a standardized system should provide. It won’t be long before the UK government see this as another handy addition to the coffers and we can at least see some sort of fairness regarding foreign drivers entering the UK. Then we’ll no doubt have another layer of confusion, maybe with VOSA being privatized they will be police it to increase revenue! Can you buy shares in VOSA? could be a good bet long term.

Keep safe, Paul

is it 80kmh for trucks in EU?

It is 80 km per hour speed limit for ADR loads in the EU.
And tunnel restrictions and times on some roads.
One tunnel near Chambery on the way to Italy has a restriction, but i have gone through with no problems.
The road from Bordeaux to Irun is 80km’s for Adr and enforced by the Gendarmarie.
It is normal to be pulled in at Castets truckstop for a “controle”.
Then those words; “You must pay, problem Monsieur.”

just to complement tobys collection of halftruths - yes, the law is 80 in many parts of europe, adr or no adr. the enforcement of the limit varies from country to country and region to region, usually you’ll get done for it if you have been naughty in other ways as well - on the phone or picking your nose the wrong time of day for example.

as for bordeaux to irun - the last time I went through there was a year and a half ago but even then it was 80 almost all the way beginning from poitiers up to biarritz (with a few short exeptions), with no overtaking as well. things have probably changed with the completion of the widening and new tollbooths. enforcement during daylight was harsh, so always tried going through at night. cue toby with how things were in 1982.

It’s for domestic traffic and doesn’t cover international.

When we used to do computer installations on Sundays in Holland, usually around the Amsterdam area, we had to go to Hoofddorp to the depot of the firm who usually assisted us and collect the guys and the kit we required such as ramps, stair climbers, plates and so on, as we could drive as international traffic but they couldn’t as it would be a domestic job for them.

I asked a Dutch copper about this a few years ago as I had heard this not enforced thing a few times. He told me about it being only for domestic traffic. He also pointed out there would be an outcry following an accident on a Sunday involving a foreign truck in which people died if there was a rule in place which wasn’t being enforced for some reason.

Ah cheers for the input guys. Im sure a few more countrys have the driving with lights on law but i cant for the life of me remember them as i drive with my lights on all the time anyways. I hope this is of some help to people as well and if you have any more uptoday info on toll roads etc… like in ireland where they are opening more and more then please feel free to add.

Italy, lights on in the day for all vehicles.LGV speed limit on national roads is 70 kmh,and 80 kmh,but i have not seen this being enforced,i spoke to an Italian traffic cop,to ask why i see trucks flying past when im sat at 80 kmh,and he told me the Italian drivers have devices that will show 80kmh on the tacho, but when they get pulled over, but their TRUE speed is what they feel like,as in much higher, the devices are hard to find, and if the cops cant find them ,the firm will sue them for loss of earnings, to have to truck put in a garage all day.

Usefull post mate.
