given the choice id do euro work .if its 450 take home rob then take it and enjoy mate.
Reason for all the departures is all the heavy work 27 + whatever they can fit on the top of cages the majority all have to be unloaded at the shop and normaly there will be one ■■■■■■■ her own so you end up doing most of the work, the three [zb]s in the traffic office don’t help either like!
As for the Brit/Dane drivers you can only go by what you here, the lad that told me is reliable thats why I could’nt belive the the wages being quoted but as you say there are those who like to ■■■■■■■■!
If it needs creative spelling to get it past the censor, it’s not allowed. L.

Holland & Barrett running out of Burton might be a bit of trek for you but there always looking turnover of drivers is quick could’nt tell you who half of them are, you flash somebody going the other way then you think err who was that?
I could manage Burton if I was out all week, it’d be a grueller every day though, I’ll look into that if I get my ticket back, it sounds OK!

There’s always a good reason for that.
And Geordievin, I assume the 50k figure you mentioned was a typo? Otherwise somebody’s been drinking too much diesel
More miles in the caff etc…
Salut, David.
I thought it was 25 grand a year??
Ah, I’d have a go David, I’d give them the old rhubarb treatment and go missing all week, it’d either end up a good job or I’d get me cards stamped!
I’ve only been running on the continent this year, and what a difference from over here.
Motorway driving is a lot less stressfull as there are fewer vehicles except round the major cities and mostly drivers understand and have much more respect for trucks. Services are excellent and language or currency is not a problem.
However after driving along nearly desserted motorways for many hours, in a perverse way I do miss the nose to tail 50 mph fight along the British Motorway network.
Tis 25 grand a year you would’nt get too many nights out though probably only 2 at most! we’ve got lads who travell from leicester and chesterfield but can’t see why you can run in then they expect you back in 9 hours!

Each to their own, if I was going to do UK work I would want a lot more money than doing Euro work, at least half as much again.
is that to make up for what you wouldnt be earning with all that duty free? i heard of a driver(now deceased) reputed to be making £1400 each trip. maybe thats why rates are lower, managers know what the drivers are doing when they have 1 or 2 spare loading metres.
Coffeeholic:
What bearing does the fact they speak a different language and use a differnt currency have on wages?
makes the job more difficult. stop to ask directions, if you dont understand them and they dont understand you, what then? if you are taken ill, the language barrier could again cause problems.
money, having to get it changed every time you go over. fines for nothing.
it is far easier to work in a country you live in and are from.
but i can understand that some people need to boost their ego, and for them, european driving is the answer. but it doesnt impress me.
i did 872km in a shift, going around birmingham and over the thelwall viaduct twice.
thats a good average 87.2 Ks an hour i do hope that was over a 10 hour drive?

Most people seem to speak very good English, which is embarresing when you struggle with the basic of r language.
Roadhog:

With the euro, you just have a wallet with some euro and some stirling, don’t need to change it. Never been fined, but do get asked for caps and t shirts.

maybe in some ways, but do like seeing different places and meeting different people.

Spent many years working in the UK and don’t think any less of those who do UK work, in many ways they work harder than me, even in the same type of work. Just got a chance to try something else and got more money. It’s others who think my job make me better than them.

dosent impress me either they dont earn as much as me and sleep in a tin box all week
also it makes me laugh all the “uk to europe” written on lorries so what
i think the days of making money on ■■■■ and beer are over you can buy it just as cheap in the supermarkets here i mean they are selling 24 cases of carlsberg here for a tenner.
each to their own if they want to do it let them it dont bother me i cant be bothered with all this i hate uk work… what a load of rubbish uk work is good to fall back on if things go wrong its always good to have a back up plan but then some people dont think like that.
i dont hate uk work i enjoyed euro because it was differant and i had the wonderlust.but you do get much more respect over there i was a tramper in the uk so tramping around europe made no differance to me its horses for courses .

Why does everything have to revolve around money?
What happened to doing a job for the love of it?
As long as you take home a decent wage whats the problem?
I personally would never employ a driver who on applying for a job asks “what you payin’?” before anything else.
Go on - call me a tight arse - I don’t care - money orientated drivers are all the ruddy same.

What do you expect to be wrote on the side?
UK to Isle of Grain?
If you go to Europe, you’re gonna have that on the side - yes?

1.There is no such thing as duty free anymore between UK and Europe.
2. I haven’t bought what you are calling duty free (drink, cigarettes) for at least ten years and most likely even longer than that.
At a lot of companies that run over the water, it is a sackable offence to bring in excessive quantaties of that sort of stuff as there is a risk of the vehicle being impounded by customs.

If you think it would be that much of a problem then don’t stop and ask, use a map. It isn’t a problem as with a cross between sign language and a pencil and paper, so they draw you a little map, you get the info you need.

Anyone in the medical profession speaks English. As do the people on their equivelent of the 999 number.

money, having to get it changed every time you go over.
Option 1. Walk to change office on ferry. “Could you change this into Euros for me please?” Job done.
Option 2. Walk to ATM. Insert Switch/Maestro card. Press a couple of buttons. Get Euros. Job done.
Roadhog:

You don’t get fined for nothing, there is always a reason.

The ones who do it as an ego boost usually don’t last very long at the job.

Well said, I aint ever seen happiness or contentment for sale anywhere, theres illusions of it yes, but there just illusions. Money is needed, and a lot of it (I would imagine) is nice! I aint against it. You need enough to live on, thats obvious, but it aint the be all and end all of life.
But chasing the shilling is a fools errand and many times years ago Ive left somewhere good, for somewhere bad for more loot. Ive also met a lot of others who have the same experience of it too. Funny I have never met one that said, “I moved for the money, and the jobs horrible, but Im loving it” IF youre lucky, youll get a lot of money and will also genuinely enjoy the job, and note, enjoy, is not the same as tolerate!
Ive never met anyone yet that is satisfied with money alone, they still moan like ■■■■■ about everything else, so Im of the opinion that money dont buy happiness, till or if, I ever meet a lot of folk that prove it otherwise!

We live in the 21st century when technology has advanced beyond belief, maps will be a thing of the past, Sat Nav is becoming all the more common so who needs Maps when the voice coming out of your dash is directing you to the spot!! And its in English!! Simply tap in the postcode!
Why does everything have to revolve around money ?
Because thats how we live , we all get out of the pit to earn money in order to better our lives, if we didnt have to then we wouldnt. Does anyone on here do their job simply for the love of it regardless of the wage ? Interesting to see the response!

I think there are very few drivers now who think that way, times have changed drastically, those who are fortunate enough to love their job and earn a good wage are blessed. Now the 2 dont go hand in hand. Its a shame.

I think you’ve just shot down your own arguement, Routier, unless you think that satnav isn’t available to us peasants in (mainland) Europe.
I always did the job for the love of it, as long as I could afford it, then, when it got a bit less enjoyable - I stopped.
Salut, David.
