I have a TomTom 720 which is very good, well apart from the stuttering voice issues on the computer voices, a bit ongoing that problem, but due to be fixed soon. Works quite well as a handsfree device for the mobile and also play music through it via the FM thingy, great when changing vehicles a lot, you can carry your music with you and just tune it into the radio. Lane guidance which appeared in the latest release has been very useful, gives a picture of which lane you should be in at exits, very good if you on a unknown stretch of motorway. The mapping seems good, the computer voice is very helpful, reading out street names, speed limits and POI. I have Commie Europe on as standard for me, but also Bankrupt Europe as well, but you can also get a Central Europe map which includes countries were the food is very good and also countries were no one can drive in snow… As I have the 2 different maps, I have to change maps on the hard drive near the border, so I need to know were I cross from Cabbage world to La La Land, the Central map would do that for you of course.

I would say the worse thing about the device is the people who make it, support is very dire at best, but there are plenty of forums out there with the answers.

On a slightly diferent note, anyone wanting to pre-plan their route on a laptop/PC and upload the route to a TomTom device (as you can do already with garmin & mapquest) should take take a look at TYRE trace your route everywhere

I got one of these, a bargain. Full european mapping, safety cameras built, for all european routes aswell. it even tells you ones that are in long term roadworks.

Th e best thing I find is it’s small enough to put on windscreen and not be in the sweep of wipers.
