Euro licence categories

Are driving licence categories like B, C, CE etc a British thing, or are the same categories used across Europe? I’ve just seen an eastern European truck with what looked like a job advert ending with C+E and a phone number (not British I think) - is this a job back home or a British job only being advertised to people from that country?

I believe our licence categories match with the rest of the EU, they used to be ‘groups’, like Group A was up to 7.5 tonne etc.
