Euro 5 exhaust systems

I’d like to put a side pipe onto a euro 5 MAN. One with a diverted box so I can keep the noise down and neighbours happy when leaving and returning to the yard. I know it would be physically possible to do but does anyone know how it would effect the running of the engine? Guessing the ecu is going to be monitoring the levels of various gases before and after the exhaust box etc to get the ad blue dosage right. Anyone know if it’s possible to get around the sensors or who I could talk to about it? Tried MAN but they weren’t reay interested.

Try truckmax in Wisbech

I believe you can do what you like downstream of the magic box, with a simple pipe only. For instance some people put upright pipes on to allow specialist bodywork to be fitted. Just so long as you don’t disturb the back pressure. If you increase the back pressure the engine might think the PM filter or cat are blocked.

my bosss did it on his new 620 scania, and had twin straight stacks fitted, the only thing is that the switch valve has to let 25% still pass through the original system, mind you still sounds good lol, the other thing was that scania would not longer warranty the original exhaust, but he went through with it anyway :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Your boss has too much money. :stuck_out_tongue:

Who you bloody kiddin you want to be a boy racer in a 44 tonne piece of crap!

Too keep the noise down LOL

bloke who does my servicing has just done that on a new scania, i think it was eminox who did it for him , i,m sure they just use some disclaimer, ie for show use only

Biking, who said anything about being a boy racer? If I wanna listen to that 6 cylinder purr as she should, I will. Each to their own. It’s not 44 ton any how, it’s 74 ton.

Only thing that puts me off upright stacks apart from the cost is that they eventually rust…

Stainless rusts?

It discolours because of the heat, so it needs a regular polish with polishing paste.

I run with an installed selective catalytic reduction (SCR)

Unfortunately there is a very limited life to the filters and that means I’ve replaced them maybe 3 times in about 2 years - partly to meet EPA 2010
