Great citizenship based on jus Sanguinis.That means I could apply but I won’t.The irony of people having given their lives for Irish independence and sovereignty then they want to give the place to Brussels. 
Bit of a non story really there is always a surge in Irish passport applications at this time of year due to the holiday season begining at the end of June in NI. Other reasons are that if you are from NI and you have an Irish passport you don’t have to pay tuition fees at the Scottish universities and pensioners from NI get free travel in the Republic if they have a valid Irish passport so a lot of people at both ends of the age scale will be applying for the first time. The figures are still quite small an increase of nearly 400 since the beginning of the year, two of which are for my children who have only ever held Irish passports despite living in the UK yet who will be included in these figures, so unless there is a proper breakdown of the figures and where the applications are coming from I wouldn’t pay to much interest to it.
