Mazzer2:
I think you are looking at this somewhat prejudiced to say he can’t string two sentences together is bollox he’s not everyone’s cup of tea by any means, but if you look at what else was on offer in the last election then he was perhaps the best of a bad bunch. Sturgeon may answer the questions presented to her but that doesn’t mean the answers are factual, her response in general is to blame Scotland’s woes on Westminster yet the areas where Scotland is underperforming, education and health are completely devolved. A friend of mine from Dundee who doesn’t support independence says it wouldn’t be a bad thing because then we would at least have to take responsibility for our ■■■■ ups instead of being able to wave the nationalist flag and blame the English.
On a wider note it is interesting as to how politicians are perceived by the other public in other countries, throughout BREXIT remainers have said what a statesman Leo Varadkar is yet in Ireland he is the most unpopular leader since the Republic was formed he found it easier to bash the UK than to sort out Ireland’s problems and that is going to result in him getting the boot this weekend, it would be interesting to see how Sturgeon would fare running an independent Scotland without being able to fall back on the blame Westminster excuse
Fair enough, some good points there.
As for Johnson though, he seems to just about get by when he’s got a script, and sticks to it.
When asked an unexpected question, however, his default response is either gibberish, or answering the question he was HOPING to be asked.
I don’t think he even listens to the questions, he just spouts nonsense about ‘A Great Deal’, an ‘Oven Ready Deal’, ‘Taking Back Control’, nothing specific, just endless ‘Make Britain Great Again’ nonsense.
The part of the Deal that concerns Northern Ireland particularly confuses me. It seems to be just a series of contradictions between Johnson and the EU about whether there will be extra tariffs and paperwork involved.
If only we had a resident, knowledgable, finger on the pulse driver from N. Ireland on here who isn’t afraid to bluntly tell us what’s what.
Oh well . . .
TBH on the NI question I don’t think anyone knows and if Sinn Fein get into coalition in Dublin on Sunday as polls suggest they might despite the other two main parties saying they won’t deal with SF it could all change again
whiplash:
Very interesting Sunday morning will be had on these islands on Sunday morning Mazzer!
I think their time has arrived!
It’s possible but I reckon FF and FG will do a deal to keep them out and then everything will be back to no change one of the downsides of proportional representation quite easy for the establishment parties to stitch up the outsiders

Perhaps, but I don’t know enough about the Irish version of PR to disagree. But it has got to be better than the broken system in most of the UK.
However, as all 3 parties vying for supremacy this Saturday have similar (and connected) roots in the Irish war of independence and later civil war, I don’t see a great deal of difference between them, albeit perhaps SF is more left wing.
Whatever the outcome, the inadequacy of the voting system will certainly not have the cataclysmic and anti-democratic result that shook the UK in December.
What I am saying Mazzer is that whatever the result, or perceived ‘stitch-up’ at the weekend, count your lucky stars. At least non of those parties are going to take you out of the EU.

That is one of the problems you cannot have a cataclysmic change so despite the publics general discontent with how things are it is very hard to get a change the two main parties have been in power since the Republic was formed and more than likely a coalition will be formed that will be lead by FF with FG as their partner as opposed to what is currently a coalition lead by FG with FF as the partner so no change as such. Varadkar has spent all his time being the EU’s golden boy but taken no action with the problems at home in the health service and homelessness making the UK seem like a utopia in these areas which shows you how bad things are

I take your point, but at least you would know that the majority of the Irish people desired the outcome. That is often not the case in British elections.
Who knows, SF might win enough seats to make their own terms, but as I think they are not fighting every one that seems unlikely.
Whatever the outcome, I hope you get something you personally would approve of.
They are already refusing to put ministers up on serious programmes.
How is this refusing democratic scrutiny allowed?
I don’t care which side of Brexit or left/right of party politics anyone is, is this democracy if politicians aren’t accountable?
What happens if any tactics used to win elections are deemed OK?
Edit. To be clear I condemn Corbyn’s Boycott of the BBC too.

My opinion, for what its worth.
I think the media have shown time and time again they can not self control themselves and to impose laws would upset so many people, so, I think to avoid there poor behaviour they are being side stepped. you may agree, or disagree but it needs sorting out. Harvey

Been out of this thread for a while, because, basically, it was the usual suspects making the usual (blinkered) views.
Why, and this is a serious question, are so many of you offering such blind devotion to the guy in No.10 wearing the clown shoes?
Probably for the same reason so many in Scotland have blind devotion to Miss Krankie
That’s not really and answer though, is it?
Some people like Nicola, some don’t, but at least she’s open to questions from everybody. She doesn’t dodge certain interviewers or hide in fridges.
I’m serious about Johnson, why such support for a clown that can can’t string two sentences together?
Anyone?
Could it be he had a majority who liked him enough to vote him in and they overlooked your opinion. Harvey

.The " bad behaviour" of whom needs curtailing?
Politicians need to be examined by the press. All of them. All parties, all of the time.
Their views should be challenged. If they have good reasons for their opinions and the decisions they make, they get a platform to explain them.
If they are doing things based on false information or they are telling lies, then we, the electorate need to know.
The kow-towing of interviewers was (mostly) done away with decades ago. And rightly so.
.
Persistently asking a question a politician is evading is not rudeness, or bad behaviour. Rudeness and contempt for US (You and me) is shown by those who refuse to answer those questions.

Of course you have to be able ask the question in the first place. You’re not going to get much sense out of an empty chair.

Maybe a 50% more accurate rate of response?

Chairs don’t tell lies!

If he did have, you might have a point (though I would dispute that on the grounds of non-accountability), but the fact is that the majority didn’t vote for him. Only 45% did.

Did anybody hear the report on BBC that at one of Johnsons press briefings, certain members of the media(not sure whether print or tv/radio),were refused admission.
In fairness to all the other journalists, they all left.
Bit of Boris taking a leaf from Trumps book there methinks?

Absolutely. Trump would be proud, Putin even prouder.

I’m reading “Homage to Catalonia”, at the moment. The BBC R4 had a season for him recently. And the radio play of 1984 is excellent. Good for long m-way drives.
