Have a feeling a lot of people are stabbing BoJo in the back already before he has had a chance, surely he should be given the opportunity to see what he can do in these
difficult times. It wont be easy but lets just wait a little while as he might turn out to be a fantastic PM and only time will tell that is if he is given that time, Buzzer.
He may well turn out to be a fantastic PM Buzzer. His track record as Mayor of London and Foreign Secretary doesn’t inspire much confidence. But, he’s there, in number 10, with a job to get on with. So, you’re right, let’s just wait and see what happens. I think, personally, he’s incompetent in whatever job he does, but, let’s just see how it unfolds. I’ll be happy to be proved wrong.

Bag Thatcher was just lucky. Lucky that the Labour Party chose the wrong leader and that she inherited the solution to the monetary problems of the day from Denis Healey. She admitted this later in life.
While we are attacking History and Classics degrees as irrelevant to modern issues, Denis Healey achieved the rare distinction of a double first in Greats. Just about every type of political and military problem has been seen before, however long ago it might have been.

I don’t hold Thatcher up as an ideal politician, but do suggest she was a hard working one.
Dennis Healey got a double first after working for and getting a scholarship to Oxford. Johnson achieved a lesser degree after years of private education.
As the Beach Master at Anzio he saw the real effects of decisions he took. He had a real life and experience outside of politics.
Before WW2 he toured Europe on a bicycle. At about the same age Johnson was getting his first sacking fir dishonesty.
Healey was a talented photographer. I haven’t seen any critiques of Johnson’s wine boxes, so have no idea how well he paints them.
I think Healey would draw lessons from the past. I fear Johnson doesn’t.

In this case Healey was actually just another typical lying politician, who took advantage of your rose tinted view,to impose Tory wage policies while standing on a Labour mandate and laughably calling those who voted for him and his Party ‘silly’ for daring to protest about it.As for drawing ‘lessons from the past’ it’s obvious that Federalists will selectively airbrush out inconvenient ‘lessons’ like the casualties of the Yugoslav and US wars of Federal aggression. If not just lie by always making the secessionist sides the ‘aggressors’.

I don’t hold any politician up as ideal, including MargaretThatcher,
but I do have personal reasons for appreciating her time in charge.
Denis Healey though, I do go along with all you say.
But also famous for eyebrows and his classic put down of Geoffrey
Howe. ‘Being attacked by him is like being savaged by a dead sheep’.

I’ll go along with that ramone,
This for Leavers and not aimed at reference book Remainers, spare me the history.
I watched(TV Politics noon till one) Bojo slay the opposition benches today, rattling cages, ruffling feathers. their faces were a picture. Yes he is a gaff prone maverick but when last did we see such a display of belief in the United Kingdom, not everybody’s cup of tea, he’s a gamble, he’s winning me over, he gets my vote.
Oily

I’m no fan of Boris Johnson, but he was the most appealing of the candidates offering themselves for the post of PM. So far, he is doing what the previous incumbents should have done three years ago - with a mandate from the electorate to get out of the EU, he has cleared out the remainers and appointed a cabinet of leavers to (hopefully) get the job done one way or another. The sincere threat of no-deal might just bring about a re-negotiation of the exit deal to the benefit of both sides, or might strengthen the EU’s resolve not to give way, in which case the threat must be carried out without any further delay beyond October 31st. The people of this country need to grasp the opportunities that our leaving will facilitate - if we all have a defeatist attitude, then failure is inevitable. To paraphrase Trump, if you don’t like it here, you can leave.

Both sides of the house agree as Mayor of London he was outstanding, what do you know the rest of the country does not, !!! Harvey

Was there a debate on the subject? A survey? Anything??
Or is the house you`re referring to the one with the blue door in Railway Cuttings, Cheam?
Harvey I see you have not a lot of confidence in BoJo but just wait and see, at least its much better than Corbin or Farage. Really I think he will take us out of the EU and its alright Brussels having all the bravado right now but Boris is a tad different to TM, for sure if he fails on that one thing the Conservatives are done for.
When the reality kicks in in Brussels that we mean what we say may be we will have a different reaction, how is Macron going to calm his fishermen when they lose there hunting grounds, just watch him squirm and there is already unrest in France, also the German car manufacturers so Merkel will have some explaining to do as well, but the one I want brought down to size is Varadicar

Dexy had previously said that he had no confidence in the new PM. Im sure he

The UK has a generous proportion of German made cars running round and they will still want to sell them here if we leave so wont want any form of tariff’s applied, Buzzer.

Absolutely true.
acea.be/statistics/article/ … u-partners
Youll see that about 12% of EU made cars end up in the UK and about 51% of UK made cars end up in the EU. Tariffs would mean 12% EU production gets taxed and could result in fewer sales. Equally 51% UK production gets taxed and could result in fewer sales. Yes, the Germans don
t want tariffs, equally the UK makers don`t want tariffs.
More than that who in the future would build a factory such that 51% of output is taxed, when they could build a factory where only 12% of output gets taxed?
Yes youre right the German car makers don
t like the idea of tariffs. Neither should any UK citizen who cares about the future of their country.

Yes, quoting is a bit of an acquired art, and if you get it wrong you can put yourself entirely on the other side of the fence.
I spend a lot of time in France, of course, something like 99% of the time all over N, S, E and W, and I haven’t seen any unrest since the Gilly Jones decided to go legit and got slaughtered at the polls.
Now, let’s get one thing straight. Whatever the EU does it is never, ever, going to dump Ireland. A betrayal of that magnitude would destroy confidence throughout the Union and put an end to it. So, whatever Macron or Merkel like or dislike, are prepared to sacrifice for their own national ends, their hands are tied by the necessary agreement of all 27 EU members.
Even if the Baltics and other EEs were tempted to be nice to the blond buffoon they would soon talk themselves out of it because Ireland is nowhere near as threatened as they are (by the great bear to the east) and any isolation of Ireland could not be any further from their minds.
Johnson is a liar and a buffoon, playing to the ignorant gallery, he will not get a deal and even he probably knows it so he is trying to buy off the country with hopeless empty promises that it can never afford. He is so transparent. His boast of adding 20,000 police is nonsense, even if he did, or could, do it, it wouldn’t be an addition, it would be a replacement of all those who have left over the last 9 years or so.
On a personal note, I have lost all confidence or interest in what happens in Britain. Our only personal loss is the contiinued devaluation of our main pensions, but we will not be starved back. I could go back to work for profit, exactly what I do now for pleasure, simply add 3.8 cents/km to what I charge now. I turn work away almost every day of the week, the demand is enormous, one association (who has for some reason allowed a fantasist onto its Council) already insists on paying me 6 cents above my rates. I try to level it down by not charging them Night Out or toll charges.
OK, I know you are not intetested in all that but, I merely want to point out that we in Europe are very happy with our lot in this Union, and even those who moan about ‘les pays de l’est’ (EE) shake their heads in dismay and determination not to let the bordelle (shambles) that is Britain today occur over here.
Further on my prev post: Here is another possible scenario regarding tariffs…
If Pierre walks into a car showroom today he could buy a Solihull built Jaguar F-Pace 2.0 for 65k.
A BMW X5 3.0 would be nice, but costs 72k. Maybe he`ll stick with the Jag?
After any hard Brexit the tariffs would now make the two about the same price. Maybe hell choose that Beemer now? Will the Germans sell less cars in the UK? I would expect so. I would also expect them to sell more in the EU to replace those UK Jags that will be more expensive because of 10% WTO tariffs. It really isn
t a simple situation.
