Esther Mcveigh seemed to come across well this morning on the BBC. Unusually for a politician she spoke very clearly without waffling : GB will be leaving the EU on October 31st full stop. If that means no deal then so be it, that is what is going to happen. We know the EU has made preparations for No Deal, we have too and will continue to do so. If the EU wish to talk before then or afterwards then GB is only too happy to do so, but it will not alter the fact that we leave on 31/10. As for other domestic matters, what will go down well with most apart from Geenham Common Woman and the professionally offended is that the Foreign Aid budget - which IIRC she said has doubled since 2010 - will be raided for the benefit of UK internal issues.

But on the other hand you have got Chancellor Hammond stating he may bring the Government down to prevent a no deal scenario what right has he to do that, this is just flying in the face of democracy. Better in my view someone who just says it straight and is committed to leaving on October the 31st, Buzzer
Gentlemen.
I have to say that I am completely in awe of your stamina. 138 pages and still going strong. Incredible.
Surely one fine day it will occur to yourselves as it has to the rest of us that our wonderful political classes think that we are too stupid to have been entrusted with a decision this important and have spent the last two years making sure that Brexit has not and will not take place, ever.
And that’s the truth.
David.
If or when Boris goes to court for lieing will this open the floodgates for all other MPs to go to court for the same accusation. Tony Blair will be a worried man

Blair should have been shot for taking us into war, more good British citizens lost for ever and he should have paid that price, Buzzer.

If you look at the rate of Foreign Aid, which automatically takes inflation out, it was about 0.3 or 0.4% in 2010 and is now about 0.7% of GDP. So yes, she seems correct.
However, a few years prior we were paying about 0.5% so she has chosen the lowest comparison point for decades. That would be an increase of less than half since 198?
In 1974 we with other U.N. countries signed up to give 0.7% in aid, and have only now just achieved that. That seems a good thing to me. Nice to know we aren’t selfish, with our wealth. Substantially less than 1% doesn’t seem excessive to me, but others may differ.
Personally I think it better if we keep up the air, and stopped giving tax breaks to the richest, and used their properly paid taxes to fund the current underspending by the present Gov.
I’m not Greenham Common Woman, by the way, nor am I professionally offended.
I take do offence that I, and those better off than me, may prefer to gain a little at the expense of those who are worse off and out of sight. I take offence at the suggestion that “most” of my fellow citizens of all religions and none think that way. I find it offensive that the Nasty Party is raising it’s ugly head again.
.
Not professional offence of course, I quite happily feel offended at that for free.

Or there’s my theory that it was never a case of entrusting anyone with any decision because dissolving the country was never a matter for a vote whether parliamentary or referendum. This decision had already been taken by HM in 1972.While she’s in too deep to back out now.Even if she wanted to ( doubtful ).Everything else has been a diversionary stunt to create public acceptance of and credibility for the trick, which Powell rightly said had been carried out against the country. Although even he didn’t realise the depths of the establishment ( heights ) to which it went.Or possibly, like others,he did but was in denial and not wanting to realise.

While we inflict austerity at home to pay for it.In which, although you’ve obviously not noticed it in your utopian la la land, people are literally dying at home for lack of cash needed to spend on saving them.Or more like reverse Kalergi type racism which says that the wrong Brit life isn’t worth as much as the right foreign one.

I don’t think Tony will be losing any sleep, only those who have openly said they will be prepared to take the UK out of the EU without a deal are in the Remain establishment’s gunsights. It would be nice to think that some of the other tellers of untruths might be brought to book, but I doubt it. “The UK will be leaving on the 29th of March” - “we will electrify the railways to Sheffield and to South Wales” - “we will cut immigration to the tens of thousands”, etc, etc.
If anyone wants prosecuting it is Mother Teresa as she repeated on 108 occasions " We WILL leave the EU on the 29th March " !! Trying to prosecute Boris is just a “Loser Remainer” stunt and I reckon it will be worth a load of extra votes for Boris and will get thrown out when or if it ever gets to Crown Court. The “J. Arther Rank” of a Judge who has decided there is a case to answer is more than likely a Remainer Oh! and the ■■■■ who has raised £200,000 in crowd funding to prosecute Boris was on the telly with his Brief this morning and what an indecisive ■■■■ he sounded, I bet the only thing that ■■■■ had his eyes on was how much of the 200K he could get his “Germans” on ! Cheers Bewick.

If Hammond feels so strongly about a ‘no-deal’ Brexit he should stand in the leadership contest…but then again how many votes would he get?

Politicians being less than honest? Now there’s a surprise.
Neville Chamberlain waving his scrap of paper “peace in our time”
Harold Wilson after devaluation “the pound in your pocket is still worth the same as before” or words to that effect.
Tony Blair and “weapons of mass destruction”
and more recently David Cameron " the result of the referendum will be binding"

If we stopped Foreign Aid totally we would be better off by 7pence for every hundred pounds tax we pay.
7 quid per grand.
If you pay 4 thousand a year in tax you would be better off by less that thirty quid a year.
Foreign Aid has pretty much zip to do with austerity. It has pretty much zip to do with anything here in the west. It is the difference between life and death for others less well off than us.

Back again!
The basic rate of UK has fallen by over 40% since the mid seventies. Higher tax rates have been reduced too. That has MUCH more to do with underfunding of services.
Are you really fooled by a ‘sleight of hand trick’ like that?

Votes from members of the party? One each, since they’re all standing.
Except Grayling of course, he won’t manage to put an ‘X’ next his own name.

Apparently they are. Hysterical outbursts in place of cold careful thought. Rave on Brexiteers, you’ll get your Brexit come what may, why are you all so unhappy?
PS, Franglais, I hate that Tapatalk thing of yours, I keep posting above it. You’ll start me raving too soon.

Better?
CF I agree with Franglais about the Foreign Aid budget, ( and I voted leave ) it’s a drop in the ocean and wouldn’t really affect our economy, it’s a clutching at straws statement to think it does.
An idea to help boost our economy would be to stop using foreign labour and start using the hard done by the world owes them everything social payment reliant. Housing and council tax benefits cost each local government ( council ) £10,000’s per annum on top of that is social payment handouts, while companies pay foreign workers who can claim tax credits to boost their incomes as well as housing and council tax benefits.
The government could sit down and re establish the further education system, making Key Skill university courses their priority in assisting, medical, law, banking among those who would benefit from a reduction in university fees and the repayment, while the half arsed courses such as media studies would not receive assistance, a lowering of the income threshold required before repayment and an increase from 9% to 15% above the threshold as a repayment plan. It’s estimated that the majority of university courses since the 80’s have remained unpaid putting the burden on tax payers.
But this is a Brexit thread not a national debt thread
