Here with the letter of the week from the Commercial Motor and how right is its writer, if its not hard enough to scratch a living with all the EC rules already in existence we are now to have this burden about to be thrust upon us. How right he is when he says pick on the Brits cos they always pay up, its common knowledge that the Dutch and Germans now don’t want to go to Spain because of horrendous fines imposed for trivial infringements and this move will only compound the problem. Of course there are no enforcement to the same level on our foreign counterparts when they visit us, no weekend driving bans here just carry on as you wish. I always thought the idea of the common market was to have a level playing field but that definitely does not exist either. Now no longer having hands on with the company I set up all those years ago when ten Francs of ten thousand Lira would buy your way out of most problems incurred on your journey, day to day running is left to my two sons.
Like Brian Yeardley’s we to have invested in a new fleet of Scanias with all cab comforts such as freezers microwaves and fridges so the driver can survive even if stuck in an out of the way places. On another note as we have an all frigo fleet part of the ATP stipulates the driver should be in attendance so he can monitor the load temperature at all times on the journey and this was at the instigation of the French, how can you do that from a hotel room, what if the load is hazardous is this also to be left unattended. The theft from trucks would soar, I really don’t think this has been given any proper thought at all, but then who am I, out of Europe for me and before any one says ought we buy more from them than they do from us so they want us, cheers Buzzer.
Just gotta be canny and use the current rules to advantage if going to be away for 3 weeks
Make sure that the last 45 hours off before going away on a Monday can be used for the forthcoming week so that’s the first week covered for a regular weekly rest
Another regular weekly rest does not need to be started until 2359 of week 3 which is used for week 3
Weekly rests in between can be reduced ones and one of those can be used for week 2

And that’s the problem. How many of us voted YES for the EEC, I did,
I didn’t vote for the poxy bloody EU. They are two different things. The gravy train that is the modern day EU is ruining our lives IMO

Well said my good man I agree with you, Regards Larry.
The simple answer is that we leave the EU and then go back to domestic regs for all UK reg vehicles which ‘should’ apply wherever they are used here or internationally. If the EU then denies UK reg vehicles entry under those rules then stuff em we do the same to theirs and also start a trade war which we can’t lose being in trade deficit with the place.

We’ve found some common ground at last “CF”,I didn’t vote to join the EU in the last referendum and I havn’t changed my opinion since the mid 70’s.■■■■ em! is what I say and the faster we can leave the better, the ■■■■■ will still fall over themselves to trade with us so no problem there then.Cheers me old mucker,Bewick.

Check out the AEC V8 topic I’ve also said that I’d prefer to put a Gardner 8LXB in a wagon than an AEC V8.
Hey to all, It’s all the same it’s a vicious circle all the working people like the EU, because the rich countries have to pay for the poor. Europ has grown too too fast. And you may be happy because you have still the Stirling Pound.
And we have to pay an pay the get them on the same levels as we.
I think the Eu was good till '81 as Greece came. Even a friend of me who’s a Greek doesn’t like the EU,
He told me now we have young lorries but have to drive for the leasing companies, day out day in. As before
we could stay some days at home after a long trip, and the ownerdrivers can’t afford it.
And even the Germans says as we belgians, they had to build the wall twice this high.
We had a time it was worse for four years but now it’s for ever
But the big boys want the" United States of Europ" with our money.
And as we mimic the U.States we have the difficulties as them which Russian and China don’t have to spend money on.
There was time if you want to sell in Belgium your had at least to assemble here, but now, come come China so we can close our companies and throw our people on the street.
But it has it’s reason, and we has no raw materials. Happy the I will not to witness it in the coming hundred years
but for our grandchilderen and thereafter■■?

Cheers Eric,

The EU was always a federal project from the start it’s just that now the federalists aren’t hiding the fact.Hopefully it’ll break up starting with us before it gets the chance to turn into the USE and even more hopefully before we’ve allowed the new east Euro states to drag us into a fight with Russia.
I did vote to join the EU back in the 70’s. I was totally wrong, as it proved to be a disaster for the UK. Given the chance to vote again, my vote would be to leave the EU.
Cheers Dave.
Even if we were allowed to pull out of Europe i.e. look at the Irish fiasco, then our continental hauliers would still have to abide by the e.u. rules. Catch 22.

The fact is we’re in trade deficit with the EU not vice versa therefore we hold all the cards if they want a trade war in that they need access here more than we need access there. It’s simply a case of getting out first then applying the rule of vehicle and driver only need to satisfy the regulations in the country of registration.Assuming we go back to domestic regs that obviously means that’s what UK reg trucks need to comply with not theirs.
The scary thing is that the EU propaganda machine has managed to create a mindset amongst the Brits of thinking we need their permission to leave the federalist scam.

I think Dave that you voted for joining the European Economic Community, (the EEC), many of us did, it’s main aim was “free movement of goods and trade between member states”. We DID NOT vote for the European Union, (the EU) .IF we ever get a referendum I will vote OUT.
Well Gentlemen you certainly have opinions on this subject, and I don’t think we will get a chance to vote to leave this EU but if we did I would vote to come out and the sooner the better.
On another note I was listening to the radio on Friday and a load of illegal’s were caught at Dover in the back of a trailer leaving the UK what did they do only detained them, should have let them go home Buzzer.

Even at the time information which showed that joining the EEC meant the transfer of government legislation from ‘ours’ to ‘theirs’ was all available for anyone who was prepared to look for it.In the case of transfer of transport regulation such as imposition of tachographs and EEC hours regs on UK operators, that was all well known at the time as being a condition of membership and ironically opposed by the British transport unions.
As has been stated the vote that we had in the 70’s - in which I voted yes and really believed it was the right choice - gave no clue to what was going to happen when it became the EU. Given the chance again, and I fear Buzzer is right that we won’t even get the chance, I will vote to leave.
The whole fiasco is completely out of control and none of it is to our benefit.

Now we are making progress at long last, “CF” has finally acknowledged that an 8LXB is not the worst engine in the world
