ERF EC Eaton Gearbox problems

Currently restoring a ERF EC Olympic with Eaton 16 speed gearbox.

I have a problem with oil blowing through breather on top of gearbox.

Any suggestions

Emptied gearbox and refilled to level

Apart from the gearbox, hows it going?, I am doing one myself at the moment

Is there a baffle plate for the breather ?

I’m not overly failure with that box but worth checking you haven’t got an air leak inside the box pressurising the casing.

I know it sounds daft but is the breather blocked causing pressure to build up in gearbox then it blows it out the top? My erf used to do that on the different and blow the front pinion seal out!

Darren ,paul mason is your man at Geartech,he was at bill bakers on the a34 above potalpool nr Bednall .

Not conversant with that 'box at all (and probably talking rubbish!) but we got that happening when the range change cylinder on Fuller’s leaked air into the gearbox. Foden’s own boxes could do the same. Can you hear air through the breather?

Hadn’t thought of it but the air sounds likely.

Is it the eaton 16 sp 4 over 4

All sorted thanks for you advice… It was a blockage in the breather hole the breather screws into causing over pressure then surging oil out.

I know the ones we had at Kirks all had at least one gearbox. Apparently not Eaton’s finest!
