I freelance for some small companies and it seems a lot of them are ditching own lorries in favour of having transport in at a fixed price. Can’t blame them really but is a real shame. Just been told another one is going this route which will mess up my summer. Time to knock on more doors.
Freelance,is that a posh word for agency, like calling transport logistics
No great surprise really , owning and running a truck is a pain in the arse when it’s not your main business .

freelance is where the driver is self employed and doesn’t use (or rarely does) agencys too get work, he would i imagine have a core of companys whom can call upon him too cover holidays, sick days at short notice which would mainly be family, small haulage concerns

Spot on. Not used an agency yet. Why give someone a cut of your wage.
Is it not viable, to get your own truck, and offer them traction?

Often toyed with doing that but too old now
There is a glimmer of hope for the owner drivers. The big hauliers are struggling to recruit drivers.
