You get PAID say from 6am to 6pm
You actually WORK from 6am to 5pm
in this situation your TACHO should record the actual time you WORK and not the time you are PAID for

if you come to work at 6am and and leave a 6pm that’s duty, so in fact your suppose to put you card in in the morning and do a manual entries to say what time you end your duties ,if the card was remove before you actually went home
and even if you got to work in the morning you start work at 6am and did any work before you card was put in that would also need manual entries to be added
so you left work at 6 pm you took you card out at 5pm and in that hour you handed your paper work in, you mite have had to load the truck or unload it all this is other work and part of you working day

As has already been said you only need to record the time that you’re at work, whether or not you get paid for more hours than you actually work is irrelevant as far a the tachograph regulations are concerned.
