Employment figures ... is it me?

The number ‘in work’ is rising and those claiming ‘unemployment benefit’ (UB) is falling but most are in part time work

Is my thinking going awry as I look at this ?

2 people lose a full time job at 40 hours a week each = 80 hours
Those 2 people plus another 2 people who were on UB get part time jobs at 20 hours each = 80 hours

Started with 2 in work and 2 on UB but ended up with 4 in work and none on UB

So that means the UB figure is better  :unamused:

I have been underemployed for about 20 years now. I remember working a 5 day week 5x8 hours and doing time and a half on Saturdays or double time on Sundays. That seems to be gone now.I was for a time expected to do free overtime, well that did not happen!!I often just get between 25 and 40 hours these days,I would do more if the work was available. At least I am not unemployed.

I thought the same. Counting a part time job as the same as a full time one is nonsense but of course it helps the figures.

Don’t forget those on training courses or adult education. They all help to massage the figures

Dont forget those delivering courses, also doing their bit to massage the figures as well.
