Looks like ive got my man to drive my spare wagon so now I need to get a contract of employment sorted for him. Has anyone got one of their own they’re willing to send me just to use as a template please? Otherwise ill be trawling the net for one which probably isn’t suited to haulage.

Contract be tween FB haulage and ■■■■ Nut ■■■■■■■
Duties … driver (other work as required as per the haulage ind) that covers washing truck loading ans unloading etc.
Pay as little as pos
Holiday… what’s on the gov web site.
Sick pay …SSP only.
Notice required 1 week.
And anything else you want.

There will be all sorts of other things which you will want to make sure are fully understood by both of you. Many could be classed as company procedure. It is your reputation on the line, with your customers, with vosa and also with other potential staff you may need in future. Just a few things to think about would be to ensure that your new driver understands Drivers’ hours regs, defect reporting, breakdown procedure, what to do if you don’t answer the phone when there is a problem, the need to inform you if he cannot work as arranged all of a sudden. I’m sure you won’t, but don’t overlook 'elf and safety.
