£750 S/e including nights out, max hours, im sure thats what you said in a previous post, 3 x 15 + 2 x 13 = 71hrs + 4 nights out at £25 all for £750. £9.15ph s/e, no hol pay etc, as an od who is quick to slate the dreamers pulling ferry trailers it doesnt exactly seem a fantastic package seeing as your work is fantastic paying and men pulling ferry trailers are idiots…

My opinion only, therefore no basis of fact and therefore may or may not be correct.
Flippin heck that’s certainly a view point, probably a valid one, this se business gets my goat, you can either commit to employ someone or you can’t if you can’t then stop being a cowboy and go find something you can do professionally.
Silversurfer on one post I was quite abrupt to you regarding your post and I see that your posts are not inline with my epistemology with this in mind if your in Devon anytime I would really like to meet with you i’ll buy the coffee, It’s rare that I come across some one with such differing opinion im intrigued

Even an operation the size of Tesco would struggle to finance employing the labour they require across the Christmas period on PAYE full time the whole year so I really don’t think that’s a valid philosphy.
Secure jobs for everyone for life has never been viable. Soviet Russia gave it a go but I don’t think it panned out well.
J-K, I live just south of ex and most of our work is ex to torquay across to tedburn quite a small area really probably about 35 mile radius of Kingsteighton, have been upto Cullumpton a couple of times on subbie work, occasional South Wales tip and occasional Midlands.
We run 2 poopa scoopa’s
& a tipper that goes about 50 miles
I don’t do PAYE anymore as I find the tax office a pain in the arse to deal with.
I am a fair employer but why should I pay more than I have to for a driver? It may not be a fantastic deal but it is a reasonable deal. Money is not the be all & end all of a job.
There’s plenty of blokes on a grand a week who hate their job & their boss.
I am doing ok at the moment but it has been a struggle over the past 5 years. I don’t want to commit myself to a driver costing me a grand every week. Would you? Even if I was making gold every mile
& had a fortune in the bank, I don’t think any driver is worth a grand a week unless he is hauling petrol, gold, frankincense or myrrh.

Petrol is by far not the most dangerous product
If your not paying PAYE then your not an employer
If you are paying someone regularly though supposedly self employed then I wish you all the best (naive)
Maybe that’s where I’m going wrong you don’t do it for the profit, next you’ll be saying you try to pay as little tax as you possibly can.
For the rest of you the ones that are trying to be business people, I look at it this way the more tax I pay the more profit I’ve made, I don’t waste time trying to pay less tax I put all my time and effort into paying more = because more for them means more for me.

You’re either extremely young and naive, or you’re living in cloud cuckoo land. Which is it?

Your just splitting hairs now & coming across as a bit condescending tbh. There’s more dangerous stuff than petrol you say?
Where is this holy fire Alchemy you speak of?
Ok I’m not an employer or a very good business man. Happy now? Jesus.

Nice theory but I bet Jimmy Carr earnt more than you and paid less tax.
Any sensible business owner will find a way to reduce their tax liability and the most common way will be clever accounting. All perfectly within the letter of the law. Its great that you are a responsible member of society if you want to pay more taxes but you are probabky in a very small minority.

Most are mate. A small minority are not. I appreciate my opinion needles blokes on £1.40 per mile, all’s I’m saying is you guys are worth more than that, look for it, find it, pump the ■■■■ out of it. Stop lining the pockets of the big rapists. Yoiuve had 5
Years of takin it up the wrong un, now is the time, earn some money for a change.
Prof off here is a fine example of ferry work that works for him. He’s in, he’s looked after,
He has his feet under the table. Harry Monk (ok traction not ferrys) is another fine example, the rates ain’t brilliant but he’s in, he’s looked after, he’s not treated like ■■■■. Most blokes pulling ferry trailers are wasting their time just for the sake of driving a truck.
(I’ve been there & hated every stroke in my back doors).
I’ve pulled DHL Nordic trailers from Immingham in the past at £1.30 per mile or £400 per day & put up with being spoken to like ■■■■. TEMPORARILY. Most of my work is £2.50 a mile now, all miles. I’m not paying my “non employees” a grand a week, £52 grand a year■■?
I know you can’t use self employed year round unless they do a day for another firm or are a ltd company. You want holidays, go work for Eddie…

I went up to running 3 trucks a while ago but gone back to the 1 to much headache listening to moaning drivers.
I tried having self employed drivers and employees, I found that neither work or want to work for you just out for themselves. They seem to think because you have trucks you must be a multi millionaire or something. I used to pay them a salary but when they had weeks of doing 40-45 hours the minute I ask them to do extra work to make up for the quite periods they start kicking off putting the phone down, not answering it and kicking off at my customer!
Maybe I was to soft but I wanted to be a decent boss and wanted to make a profit then everyone benefits.
So got rid of the drivers and sold 2 trucks its been the best thing I done.
