bazza123:
Also the swearing filter thing. This is a working men’s and women’s site.
Agreed.
bazza123:
You’re worried children might be reading but there’s a LOT worse stuff available for them to see on the 'tinternet isn’t there?
Also agreed.
bazza123:
Sometimes swearing IS an appropriate use of language as it convey’s anger or frustration over something someone feels is important to them.
Also agreed, but in the right company and context.
Wearing my Mod’s hat:
However, the owners of this website will exercise managent over it in the way that they see fit.
That’s no different to the management practices of other forums/websites all over the Internet.
The owners of TN have a policy of not allowing swearing on the site and have banned many words for that reason.
Now wearing my Member’s hat:
IMHO, the management practices of the TN website are what (for me) sets it apart from many other forums/websites and gives the members and other readers a choice of enjoying a place away from swearing.
If TN allowed swearing like some other sites, IMHO that would leave people without that choice.
Looking at the reverse of your question, just imagine the fun to be had by thousands of people if I joined some other sites and started to ask for a reversal of their policy of allowing swearing…
At this time, both you and I have a choice, so wouldn’t you say that’s a good thing?
Rob K:
Give me a brief description of just one case where something a member has said has cost you “a lot of money”.
You need to look in the newbies section more, i think a load of training scamsters almost had a hotline to here or RBI at one time. Threatening legal action. Thats all i know, i’m just a gopher !!!
I’ve been threatened with solicitors three times by posters on here !!
Its all good fun Oh and had several people ring my bosses up about this that or the other. There’s always someone wants to know stuff or do stuff just for no good reason, just to cause ■■■■.
Give me a brief description of just one case where something a member has said has cost you “a lot of money”.
How about “NO” none of your business- We do not have to justify to you at all, those members who have caused issues by posting without forethought are aware of the problems- others cant post at all
Mike your being unfair to Rob - as are folks in the owner operators forum, the guy is the font of all wisdom on owning trucks and even running a forum, cut the guy some slack anyone with such experience deserves no less… I am sure Rob will front up and tell us all why he is so how expert at what he does ( what is it you do Rob"I do know what you do- you told me " ) want to own up and share ? the guys a troll just one of the better quality ones
Harry Monk:
So yet again, “word on the street” was totally accurate.
I just cannot understand this paranoia about “hearsay”. I belong to an economics forum which is huge in comparison to TruckNet and a post suggesting a retailer is about to go bust (Jessops, Blockbuster and HMV were all flagged up well before they went pop) would never be deleted simply because it hadn’t been published in a newspaper or magazine yet.
It simply isn’t actionable for a company to sue an internet forum because a post has appeared suggesting that a firm is about to go bust, that firm can ask the forum owner to delete such a post and the forum owner would be wise to do so but as for claiming ruinous damages against the forum owner, it just doesn’t happen, never has and never will.
I beg to differ Harry, many of the rumours/gossip are true- but there are lot posted by folks with a grudge, or who are just mad, and some are posted just to cause trouble, the law as it stands says that if something that is damaging to a company not only the poster, but also the publisher (us)is repsonsible- we can either let everything go - and spends a lot of money defending it in court, or ask that a reliable, credible and traceable source of the info is provided
Do us a favour then, delete most of the Stobart topics, Vosa topics, and ban anyone who said they were anywhere near water at the time of the Herald,
After all, its not all credible or traceable

The above just proves that you’re talking rubbish about “large amounts of money” being spent on defence lawyers as you can’t even provide one single instance.

i’m not saying the swearing filter is a bad thing as such, just wondering what the justification for it is. If you’re bosses say we have to have it then I suppose that’s that.
Rikki, I was a bit suprised you called Rob K a troll, I take most posts with a pinch of salt on here and find his posts fairly entertaining mostly. Forum members are “customers” though, in that we view advertising and possibly ( ) purchase the groups magazine’s, so perhaps some language modification might be appropriate

I don’t think the swear filter has come from the bosses, it has been here since the start.
I’ve looked at the forum rules over & over…I can’t see anything that says Rob K, has the right to know everything and that admin MUST answer him. Yet he won’t answer a single question asked of him. I think he is a great troll.
Looks like if there going for a CVA thats a lot of ODs going to take a big hit!!! not good as they have been “paying” more to the ODs recently to cover the work!

More fool for the od s taking the carrot ,isn’t it funny how when they need the work covering the money goes up any one one with half a brain cud see elite was dead and burried and to continue working for them is Sucide I don’t mean ti come across harshly but unless I was getting paid up front they cud off offered me 10 quid a mile I still Wudnt of entertained it
And the OD’s working for inflated rates are unsecured creditors…and by the way where is the original post that was removed relating to staff and drivers who weren’t paid what they were due when their employment was terminated whilst at the same time as having to let these people go Elite took delivery of a new Discovery and an all singing and dancing BMW 5 series

And how much the directors took in salary and dividends in the last 2 years

You both seem surprised,
Any owner or boss will look after themselves first no matter how good a person/company you think they are, when the ■■■ hits the fan the true colours show, the staff get dropped in the ■■■ and the owners still walk away fairly tidy,
Happens time and again.
mickyblue:
I had seen 5 Elite units running solo south on the M11.
What is a CVA?
Simple answer to CVA it’s bit like you pooling all your debts into one payment,it means they’ll pay back maybe 70 pence off every pound they owe.As I said thats a simplified explanation
They’ve offered 37p in the pound to unsecured creditors. They owe HMRC £1.5 million which in part is money they’ve deducted from staff ad drivers pay for tax and national insurance but haven’t paid over to the taxman. If the CVA is accepted they will pay back £555,000 to the taxman over a proposed 5 year period…taxpayer looses £945,000 of our money…nice work if you can get it
I am curious to know what specific forum content necessitated the need for “a lot of money” to be spent “over the years”? Please list the instances.
I am sure you are curious, But the reason the content was legally liable obbviously means I am not going to reproduce it here
I will say that this site has been served with “cease and desist” notices due to content provided by members - and we via our lawyers have resisted them,
and where we cant justify the post -we remove it,
Sounds like a cop out to me. I don’t think you (or RBI) have had to spend “a lot of money” fighting lawsuits at all, it’s just scare-mongering and looks good on paper, just like your story about having a personal line to all the ISPs to get people banned from the internet whenever you say jump.
Give me a brief description of just one case where something a member has said has cost you “a lot of money”.

If you dont get it Rob. we dont care what you “think you know” You seem to “know” a lot of things- about many subjects but are some what reticient on how you gained such expert knowledge- wouild you care to enlighten us all?
The only people I have to justify our outlay on legal expenses to are the directors of the company- who are aware of what we have spent over the years, and are also aware of the policies we have in place to minimise that spend.
When you become a director you will get the full ledger sheet, in the mean time respectfully its non of your business
The bottom line is that it is pretty unprofessional leaving unsubstantiated rumours on a forum like this as it can also damage a firms reputation and profitability if enough people start spouting the same BS. Whatever about getting sued.
