Having this morning witnessed a good 2/3 mile overtake by a fellow driver on the a55 this morning only for im to then come off at the next jumction it was interesting to hear a woman on jeremy vine today, who does emergency organ deliveries between hospitals with blue lights, mention that one of the things that holds her up the most is trucks side by side for miles of dual carriageway.
There is no doubt that elephant racing on dc’s is probably the #1 thing punters detest about truck drivers on the road and it makes me cringe whenever i see it going on. I’m no angel and ive made misjudgements in the past on hills etc and got stuck out there but then you would hope the driver in lane 1 would knock the cc down a few clicks on a flat stretch to help you out in consideration for the traffic held up. Then again, if they did that the hgv behind would then probably then pull out wanting to stay on his limiter…
I am pretty sure most people on here are sensible enough not to contribute to this but it worries me that we are going to end up with more and more of these overtaking bans in future which will just be a ball ache for all of us.
Always a difficult one, nothing worse than being set on the limiter, and on the straight you pass the truck in front only for the next hill he flies past again, Always try to read the road before moving out but have been caught out, trying to make the best progress you can, must admit some just do not use there mirrors as blue lights are easy to spot before you make the move, and how many times have they appeared once your out there at double your speed but the vehicle you are overtaking has not seen them in there mirrors and done the decent thing and backed off to let you in?
I think she was lying, either that or she is always so far up the arse of the truck they dont even notice. I only overtake on a DC when there is not a car for miles behind me and I always knock it back when a truck pulls out from behind me because I’m a pro

Me too, but the blame for the elephant race situation is down to the d/heads who thought it was a good idea to bring in limiters rather than police the speed limits, I remember this being predicted before it was brought in, but as usual the powers that be chose to listen to people outside of the job rather than drivers.
She actually referred to vans and the numptys who drive them not being able to use mirrors, similiar scenario on the A9 a week or two ago when an ambulance was flashing the blues, all the trucks dived into laybys on the single cariageway, car drivers happily plodding along at 50 completely unaware what was behind them, or even worse, stopping on the carriageway and cocking the whole thing up for everyone.

Well she said something about getting stuck behind them for miles which made me think she was bracketing us all. Van drivers tend to either dawdle along slowly in lane 1 or be getting a move on in my experience, not holding traffic up for miles hogging lanes up.
Maybe she is meeting the speed restricted vans that have started appearing? A firm round my way have them set to 50, half the lads look like they want to â– â– â– â– â– their wrists and jump out through lack of excitement.
Ever had a van trying to pass and just as it gets even they find it hasn’t got the guts to break through the wind whistling round your cab? I used to get seriously peeved with that a few years ago driving a luton bodied transit, gave up trying to pass big kit in the end unless it was a seriously long downhill section of dc.
