Egger barony howden loads

Need confirmation of a full load egger-penrith. Is this now 9 pallets 3x3 high? and what is the strap configuration - was upgraded to 15 straps but slung how? TYVMIA.

Just they had another coup this month.

Not surprising…

Just put internal straps on the back two pallets mate, you will be fine

You’ll either have a 2x2x2 configuration or a 3x3x3. Ocassionally there’s a 3x3x3x2 but not often.

So on the first combination the 2 high stack. You put one strap over the bottom pack about a third of the way in from the rear of the pack, three over the top - front, middle, rear. Best to feed the bottom strap through before they put the stack on the wagon and the forkie will expect you to do this. If you leave a loop dangling down on each side to near the floor then you can pull it down when it is on the lorry.

On the three high stack you put two straps over the bottom two packs, a quarter to third in from the front and back of the pack then three straps over the top front, middle and rear so you have 5 stacks on each pack.

If you end up doing the 3x3x3x2 load you can strap each 3 high stack the same as a 2 high one with 3 straps over the back. The packs aren’t as long or heavy on this load than the others.

STRAPS AND RATCHETS BOTH HOOK ONTO THE CHOCK RAIL, NOT THE CHASSIS.

Don’t worry about using corner protectors. If you’re using Howdens ratchets they have tension gauges on them which are a bit of red plastic on the bottom. You tighten the ratchets until both sides of that red bit of plastic touch. Also you strap it down so the ratchets are all on the passenger side. It’ll take a fair bit of strength to do it and the straps will cut into the pack a bit but that’s OK. Paperwork just pop in the back of the trailer on the floor.

If you’re picking up a stand trailer it may already be strapped down but check the ratchets and tension gauges to make sure its been tightened enough.

When you come out of Egger you have to go back to the A76 then down to the roundabout at ■■■■■■■ and join the A70, you can’t go through the village down the B road to the A70. Be careful going down the A70 but if you’ve strapped it properly and tightened it as I described it shouldn’t move but you still can’t drive like a ■■■. One wagon from another company went over a little while ago on some S bends on that road and the load never moved and was still in place as it had been loaded when the crane had put it back on its wheels so if done right it’ll do the job.

Howden night trunk drivers typically get to Penrith around 10.30-11pm and Runcorn Howdens drivers get there an hour earlier or so so you’ve no need to rush if you’re leaving Bellshill around teatime. When you get there make sure you tell the Howdens driver if its a 12 or 15 strap load and make sure you get the same number of straps and ratchets back from them.

They take you all through this on induction.

The truck that came off the A70 happened in Jan/Feb 2017. The remains of it were at Bellshill for about a month. IIRC the unit was repaired the trailer was a write off.

That’s nice but as I said in my post I was talking about one from another completely unrelated company and it has happened since the roadworks on A70 were finished where they redid some of the bends.
