I have noted the discussion about manual entries on the front of an analogue tacho chart indicating EDR, SDR, etc.
I have recently completed my CPC(Int) with the transport industry “Guru” David Lowe as instructor. He assures me that the practice adopted in the UK of drivers entering their start and end shift times on the front of the card was a dispenstion in the EU Reg 3280/85 peculiar to the UK only.
However, this has now effectively been “outlawed” with the latest Reg 561/06. I know I have read about this eleswhere, but ■■■■! I cannot find it again! Anyone know where I can track down the definitive instruction, VOSA or DfT comment?
Thanks in eager anticipation!!

32 HOW ARE DAILY REST PERIODS RECORDED?
When a chart or driver card cannot be left in the vehicle’s tachograph to record a
daily rest period, drivers should make manual entries, for example: start DR 18.30,
end DR 06.30. If using a digital tachograph, drivers should use the tachograph’s
manual entry facility to do this (see the manufacturer’s handbook for information).
Please note that digital tachographs require entries to be made using ‘UTC’ time
which corresponds to GMT time. This will not necessarily be the same as the
displayed time which may be altered in half hour steps to reflect local time or
adjusted to show summer time (daylight saving time).
