Edge protection

Anyone had a load refused due to the load being the full width of the body meaning you can’t get the bars in or can’t squeeze a long behind the straps ? Iam beginning to think its a complete waste of time and that a front to back high wire with inertia harness would be much more useful ,my self & moose have been fitting bosses and bars for a while and it seams the only people who ask for edge protection are the ones who fill the body then moan about not being able to use it ,I bet they wouldn’t pay for 2 lorries to bring 1 load all pallets rowed up down the middle ?

Does nobody drive a flatbed on tnuk ,or not got edge protection ?

We do those kind of loads that you have to put side posts in with Straps the length of trailer there a pain. Never had the load the full width of trailer though and some sights have a harness system next to where they tip you and you end up not needing all that on.

We’ve had some interesting situations ,some loads have come back ,we haven’t lost any haulage charges yet but why should we .

You can’t put the posts in if the load is over the top so don’t know what else your meant to do?

Most of the precast concrete slab loads I carry cover the full width of the bed we get tipped in a variety of ways by the slingers every site and gang seems to have different methods some use air bags round the trailers and harness systems others use harness and them safety hook posts ( they look like a hanging pole ) which are positioned besides the trailer I’ve even had steel erectors use a cherry picker to sling things up on a job at Birmingham New Street station due to them not being allowed on the trailer at all even with a harness and safety restraint which made life interesting to sort me batons and sweeping the trailer though that’s another story ! . I also saw a some steel erectors tipping a load of slabs being delivered by another haulier with a different system the other day at a job with a restraint system with 2 poles and a running harness for the lad on the back .

This edge protection and post system seems a grey area and it varies from site to site and company to company and it depends what mood the H&S bloke is in on site .

too much thinking going on here someone will get the sack
