Terry T:
That Matt Dixon also said the country would’ve been in trouble without Stobarts. What a joke. They have what, 1300 trucks or something. You can spot more trucks than that standing on a motorway bridge for a few hours. They really do think they prop the whole country up in their little green machines. Stobart spotters licking their arses don’t help.
Gone to their head much ?
more like 1850 according to them but hey whos counting… not all of them are that bad
Either way, the country would hardly grind to a halt without them which is what some of them clearly believe.
but stobarts arnt bothered what anyone other than the GENERAL PUBLIC think,i.e with fiona what they saw is a stobart driver helping to push poor stranded motorists out the snow whilst all the other drivers drove straight past ,the GENERAL PUBLIC couldnt care less about midlifts, diff locks, whetther stobarts were the only company out in the snow, what matters to stobarts is the general public see us as there night in shining armour, while all the rest drive straight by stranded motorist a stobart driver will make sure they get home for xmas,we drive from one end of country to other so they can get there vxmas trees, toys, turkeys, obvviously were not gulible enough to be taken in but the general public are, .
what ever we think its great p.r for the company, and thats all that counts, image, image

I have non truck driving friends who are part of the general public, and one of them commented on the driver who is ‘always’ leaning on the steering wheel when he is driving a massive truck,. I mentioned the half closed curtains whilst driving, and he had also noticed that, but I don’t think the stobby boss would like to hear what ‘they’ think!
I have two mates who drive for stobbies, they are both top lads, and, like me, just very ordinary lorry drivers thank goodness.

i can only comment on what i see and here, and the amount of folks that comment ,ask about programe ,none up until now have passed a bad comment, they think its wonderfull,at the services today i had 4 different folks want pics of trucks, from walking from truck to toilet god knows how many asked me when next program is on, was i in it ,you cant seem to go anywhere without folks wanting pics, chat, it took me half hour the other day to get away from woman at cafe,
other day whilst putting petrol in car on way home, old chap in que taps me on shoulder and asks if im a stobart driver[here we go whos cut him up ], i told him yes, he then wentn on to tell me to keep up the good work, how the programe had changed the image he had of us, and where could he get model for his grand son.
as i say,we know the score, but the folks i see, come up to me think stobarts are wonderfull, and its all because of the programs,
Since this series started, I’ve been asked questions by members of the public, along the lines of “how come you’ve not gone to work for Stobarts?” Because I’m happy where I am and our lorries are green anyway, I can’t be arsed to wash my truck once a week never mind daily (behind the wheels? ) Oh, and stuff the nights out and 60 hour weeks up your arse-I don’t like the job THAT much

my neighbour asked the same , & for me the simple answer was because i enjoyed what i do more than the job they do & that there are as just as many good companies to work for other than stobart , although i think i’d draw the line at gregorys
The statment for me that sums up the program was, when the de-icing team were shoveling salt out of a wheelbarrow, " its all in the wrist action"
I’ll say no more
Was i the only one to get annoyed with her constant giggling on the Stobbie docu,it was ok to start with, then me thinks, what was so darn funny all the time, was she on laughing gas,or the fame gone to her head, poor lassey.

I know something that would stop the giggling noise…

we dont wash our trucks,we just drive them into wash, they employ folks to do it for us,when it was corby, innovate we washed our own[if you can call pushing a button washing the truck,]since stobarts took over were not allowed to use wash, pressure washer, were only allowed 5 gallon drum , and a brush to wash windows, mirrors, night out, dont do them,60 hrs p.w,if only

Not a nice thing to say about one of carryfasts’ trailer combination lectures
Any documentary series could be pulled apart by professionals in whatever trade is being shown, from trawlermen to coppers to airport staff.
I think it probably raised Stobart’s public profile even higher, but even I was surprised to see the girl driving week after week with one headlamp out (though someone might have taken five minutes to fix it)
And the shots of drivers ‘using their skills’ to reverse into various places was laughable, especially the ‘dreaded blind side’
Other drivers were shown getting blocked in at Smithfields (why not park up and call a fork truck over?) getting vertigo on Dartford Bridge (huh?) and being told to slow down by an ageing yard man.
As has already been said, the drivers will no doubt have been directed to do whatever was required to make the programme ‘interesting’, but unfortunately those who put themselves forward must have realised they would face a mixture of adulation and ridicule?

The whole series was ‘light entertainment’

Bender has probably posted the most sensible thing on these forums, Easyjet and Stelios show the worst parts of the operation. Thousands of passengers fly with them without complaint. how boring would a TV series be if everyone was praising Jane Boulton
Has anyone considered the shots of Creamy Fiona were taken on the same day and then edited?
when i was at stobart i had an assesment then a full day trining in crick if you didnt get trough the assesment you didnt get the job,
during this series fiona had i bloke showing her how to cope with day work and watching her on a tight bay this wouldnt have hapened 3 or 4 years ago…
everyone has a misshap and gets stuck but when you are a cocky sod like that lad in the volvo it just makes you laugh cos thats wot i could imagine him doing if someone else was stuck,
all in all best comedy since fawlty towers or was that a documentry on running a hotel down cornwall
i remember my assesment at stobbarts carlisle on drag fleet in early 90s… phoned up asked if out was doing ,yes stop in …parked the truck i was driving in the yard ,usual guy not available for test drive …chris brown ? from the office came out for the ride.
drove a grey cargo drag (metal box) roun d kingston estate backed into bottom shed and parked up ,15min at most,
was asked when i wanted to start, in the end i stayed where i was but worked holidays and wkends on the drags
in those days there were policemen, firemen ,officeworkers, semi retired guys working wkends before the st hit the fan over wkly rest.
