I doubt it because according to his previous post he was too scared of doing the assessment drive, possibly the dreaded blindside reverse in a 7.5 tonner. :unamused:

His last post was in 2005 , hope hes just moved on to better things and just doesnt visit anymore

Go for the interview and be gratefull you got one mate. Im sure there are others that would want to be in your place even if it is stobarts. Oh and good luck.

there is a lot of stuff said about stobarts, the vast majority of it is BS.

Rumour has it they no longer haul for Quinn from Derrylin nor for Coca Cola in Ireland.

might be a chance of an interview with eddie stobart next tuesday , but i have heard a few things said bout him that is making me unsure bout them

so what do you guys think of eddie? anyone work for him or have worked for him? good or bad??

There have been many stories about eddie over the years…must always wear a tie…other stobart drivers grassing you up and receiving the £5 fine you have to pay for not complying…must not run together etc…poor wages…undercutting the rates…but at the end of the day if it was that bad he would have gone out of business years ago…and never get drivers…so its up to you…if the hours are ok…the wages suit you…then go for it…i personally only work for small family run companies…cos i dont want to be a number…just a name…and i couldnt stand anoraks chasing me all the time looking for that elusive fleet number and asking for my autograph
have a nice day

Best advice is don’t listen to all the truckstop rumour mongers and make your own mind up, the tie thing for instance is a thing of the past, if it was ever real, as the uniform doesn’t have a tie anymore. I know a guy who works for them and he reckons it is the best job he has ever had. Go for the interview and if you get a start take it and make your own mind up, you can always leave if it isn’t what you want.

If you get the start, then it is experience, Dont listen to all the rumours, some true, some rumours. I have met some decent lads on there, I have also bet some prats.

Same as anywhere really.

Dont worry about people not talking to you, No one listens to you on here either :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Good Luck on the interview technique. Dont forget to wash your car

Eddie Stobart is owned by his brother William now.

I went to work for Stobarts when they did the glass job out of Rockware.

There were lots of ex drivers young graduates there, all wanting to make a name for themselves as TMs and traffic planners remember central planning at Burton anyone    Richard Craniums :smiling_imp:

And yes you had to wear a tie if you didn’t you were sent home like a little schoolboy.

When I started we went up to Carlisle on the Eddie Stobart brain washing er I mean induction course for three days expenses paid. They even gave you a copy of the ‘Eddie Stobart Video’.

What Eddie did to get drivers was, offer us £4 odd an hour which was about 40-50p more than most general haulage paid back then.

Then after a year they said no driver should work more than 50 hours per week.

I had worked 50 hours in four days and was told not to come to work on friday take my gear out as some agency driver will be taking my wagon.

And, as I was contracted to 40 hours a week plus overtime I would only receive 10 hours at time and a half!

(zb) that I thought, looked at the planning sheet saw that the agency driver was due at 07.00 hours turned up at 06.30 and zedbeed off in ‘my truck’ before he even started.

Warning #1 :open_mouth:

After that they abolished ‘time and a half’ the line was “over the last six months drivers have averaged 50 hours and in order to simplify pay we are rising the basic rate to just under five pounds a hour and abolishing overtime rates”

To cut a long story I got the sack for refusing overtime at the new rate.

(zedbeeing zebedees)

That was over ten years ago now so I don’t even know what their pay structure is now.

If you go to work for Stobarts be prepared to eat S’ (S’=Shoe-shine)

Go and enjoy the experience you’ve nothing to loose. They can’t take your licence from you!! ITS YOURS. :arrow_right:

Seems to me, its the same as everything else. No job suits everyone. Every company has people who have worked for them forever, where others leave at the drop of a hat… all depends on whether the job meets your personal needs. Why not give it a go and find out■■? Would at least be experience, wouldn’t it… and you might find that you like it. And if you don’t… then on to the next… simple as that.

good luck to you wayne.hope it works out 4 you.as said b4 go to interview take the job and try it out.it’s easier to find a job whilst in a job+it’s all experiance for you.

when you go for interview tell them you want the big truck in the showroom if it’s still there

I used to subbie for Stobarts, watching the disappointment on the faces of drivers when they passed the trailer and then saw a white truck on the front with no name was good. One of our drivers reckoned you could put Stobart drivers in 2 categories,
Group 1 was normal drivers, just that they worked for Stobart and not somebody else,
Group 2 he described as Eddie’s marines. They thought they were something special because they worked for Eddie and anybody who worked for another haulier was dirt.
Saying all this, you’ve want to do class 1 work and they are willing to give you a chance so go for it.
