Maybe due to the lack of low bridges in the area.

I’d heard the same, though additionally I also heard they are now just sticking with the 6 biomass trailers at waterton in Bridgend. In a way I hope they do come to Swansea it might shake up the wages a bit in the area.

I know I live in Swansea sick of working for Owens and nr Evans travelling 15 miles to get to work and being paid a pittance when you get there

I also rang about the Job in Swansea and i was told that the job had gone along with the jobs in Newport, No sooner had i put the phone down the jobs disappeared from their site. I hope they move down this way abit more here in West Wales work is so hard to get for a relatively new driver.

I spoke to them about ten times phoned every Friday they fobbed me off would not give me a straight answer when it was starting just said it was going to happen before Christmas then job disappeared how are they ever going to lose the reputation of being ■■■■■■■■■ if they keep treating drivers like that

Hadn’t heard about that one. Can’t see how they make that work to be honest. There’s hardly any work West of Swansea, and the area is already saturated with established rate cutters…eh, I mean respected hauliers.

And after next month, when the bridge tolls are abolished, things West from Newport won’t improve either. Have you seen the size of the new development at Western Approach??

It’s all about the biomass (walking floor trailers) for the new place being built near the steelworks, though allegedly the Swansea depot was going to be gen haulage as well.

Stobarts mingle with the EE’s at Amazon and take over the lay-bys nearby.

There’s only the two laybys directly opposite each other and they are so narrow and close to live traffic that the EE’s and Stobbies can have them, i wouldn’t stop my car in them let alone a lorry!

Though I’m not really sure what your point is in regards to this thread.

I see, I did speak with somebody about a tanker job like that earlier this year, possibly connected.
I’m not sure what Stobarts hope to achieve in GH in Swansea. They have a depot in Newport. I don’t think there’s much, if any work West of Brigend that they could hope to undercut from the likes of Nolans (nee Raymond), S&K, N R Evans et al, and hope to run it. They lost all their Inbev work out of Magor Brewery to Owens earlier this year.
As far as Stobart possibly forcing the wages up, the bigger players have all raised wages recently, especially in the Chepstow/Newport area (one of them had to crack eventually ), probably to stop the move of drivers over to Avonmouth. I used to work in Bristol (Mon -Fri tramping), but changed to 4on-4off this side of the bridge, mainly to be closer to home, and to be home more. I could afford the drop in money, but if financial needs must, I will without a doubt have looked over the bridge again, but the wages this side of the bridge have leveled off. It will be interesting to see what happens when the bridge tolls are removed next month, and all the big RDC’s in Western Approach come online.

A friend emailed stobart this week and got a reply within 2hours, then a phonecall and after setting out the money was offered an interview next weekend…
Think he’s decided he’ll go and see what the score is…
