Whilst 56 is no age, I extend my deepest sympathies to his family, which will be no consolation to all the small hauliers he put out of business over the years.
It had to be said.

I never understand why it’s always EST that gets a hard time for taking work from smaller companies, it happens at all level in the industry from Excel or EST to the company round the corner from you. I worked for a company and we lost our biggest contract to Securicor, later DHL, it didn’t bring the company down, but it was a blow. However we picked a load of work when Stobarts got a contract in our area from another of the big haulage companies.
As for Eddie Stobart well he did more to raise the profile of the haualge industry in the mind of the general public than all the suits in the RHA or FTA have ever done.

This^^^
I have been around haulage all my life, and the ratechopping and brown envelopes have been mentioned in every conversation about transport I can remember. I know most drivers sit in on management meetings and when the books go to the accountants, because they always know all the fine detail of the company finances.
This was happening before I had even heard of Eddie Stobart, but there were names around then who are not around now, some are still here and many others are been run by incompetent fools in yellow fleeces.
anyone know who was driving the atki, daf, scania, did hear that a long time driver was one o them that carried in coffin.
