Good ol’ road rangers… indestructible
Another oddity was the Fuller Roadranger gearbox. In it’s overdrive form the positions of third
and fourth (and in high range 7th & 8th) were swapped back to front
Found this on another forum anyone know what thats about ■■?

Aye a lot of agricultural tractors are similar, probably just laziness when setting linkages and mechanisms up. It doesn’t take a lot of getting used to like

With a name like Renaultman I would’ve thought you’d had experience of the ‘round the houses’ Roadranger, I had a TR305 that had that shift pattern, it was the same in 3rd & 4th too, the Scania 10spd splitter box had a similar weird arrangement with the gearstick where 4hi had a higher ratio than 5 lo so you went 4lo, 5lo, 4hi, 5hi, don’t ask me why though while we’re on the subject of weird boxes (well we are now) I had a Eurostar 520 which had SAMT which was an early automated manual box & being Italian the electrics were a right abortion, anyway I got a proper gearstick in it which gave me a twin splitter, until I messed around with it the shift pattern was back to front & upside down! changed like a knife through butter though once I got my head around it
Ah,
And the box
For the 1st few hours, I hated the darn thing.
( the flautly scynromesh of 2/6th didnt make lift easy, coming back down the box )
But by the afternoon, I’d learned to live with the Old Girl
and after a week, (forgive me) I actually learned to love the Old Girl
PS: Im informed by the “spanner monkey” That the Engine in “old sneezy” is a ■■■■■■■■ 210
As far as I could figger, the gear desinated “(1)” is only available in High Range
and it has a ratio that falls nicely between (4) / (5)
making it possable to not need the low range at all 90% of the time.

if you aint played a tune on one ,you havent driven a good box.
Many a good tune played on an old gearbox
Eaton gearboxes? Probably the best gearboxes in the world
Tiger.
First big truck i drove had a 9 speed fuller roadranger in it. Really good box to use especially when the clutch went and had to drive with no clutch. Best twin spltter was in the ford cargo 2838.
please can we do a swop
you can have my ZF gearbox
in exchange, for the fuller-box,
You beat me to it Pete!
Then again, I’d prefer an Eaton 15 speed roadranger myself, but kinda hard to see how they’d fit it to this thing…
any FULLER is better than
a ZF box we had then
roadranger in our Man.s
and without a doubt it is still
the best box, yes the automatics
make our job better, but you have
more fun and also it keeps you
thinking unlike the push the knob
gearboxes of today,
