If you’re passing Sheffield between tea time and midnight can I personally recommend the Mehran Curry Centre on Station Road in the Darnall area. Map here. Zoom out to get a better overview. It’s only 5 mins off either M1 J33 or 34.
If you’re coming from the North, come off at J34, run under the M1 to the next island, turn right along Shepcote Lane and follow that road right to the end, left at the lights, up the d/c through about 5 set of lights (past BP on right and Shell? on left) and then Staniforth Rd is on your right BUT YOU CAN’T TURN RIGHT THERE and the junction before it (Main Rd/Darnall Rd) is tight turning left down the yellow bit on the map, SO continue under the railway bridge, then turn round when it breaks back into d/c, back down to the lights, bear left, (Station Rd now on your left), then take first right and first right again (marked as Brt. R. on the map) and easy to park on there with an artic, then just walk across the road and it’s on Station Rd behind the HSBC.
If you’re coming from the South, off at J33 on The Parkway, past the airport and Morrisons turn off, take the next one which is the B6200 Main Rd. Turn right at the island under The Parkway and follow it all the way down, down, down and you’ll come out at the same set of lights at the bottom of Staniforth Rd. Go straight across and follow the previous directions above.
Well recommended. I got a lamb rogan josh with boiled rice for £5.10 and I’ve never seen chunks of meat so big in a curry! Without a doubt it was the best curry I’ve ever had and I even phoned them up afterwards to tell them.
On a side note, if anyone knows a good curry house like that one, but near to J40/41 M1 or J28 on M62 that you can get an artic near then I’d love to hear about it cos I crave for a curry on a Sunday night when I’m doing the shunting at Wakefield and that one on the 650 just before the Morley Asda is boIIox as it’s actually a chinky, so that’ll be why!
(Ken, that’s what I was phoning you about actually )
If it’s any help look on the map and directly underneath the arrow is a small lorry park. If you come down from the parkway as Rob suggested when you get to the lights at the crossroads is across the road and slightly to your left. It’s about two minutes walk from curry place. Drivers often overnight there, only room for about four or five trucks though. No facilities but if I remember right there is one of those round Loos nearby, or there was I’ll have a look tomorrow
If you don’'t fancy turning around on the dual/c keep going for about half a mile or so and thereis a large roundabout.
Off at 40.Head towards Wakefield, past the 2 garages, and after about 150 yards, there is a fork to the right, just after the pelican crossing, and Abduls is on that junction.
You can get a unit into the car park area,if it isn’t full, but a trailer is a no no,unless you can park outside on the road.
You order your curry, and can watch it being made,as the kitchen is open to the counter area. And to the right of the counter, near the pop fridges, they offer free popadums and dip if you ask. He also does a lot of curries that are exclusive to his restaurant.
Abduls won the best takeaway award in Wakefield a couple of years ago,and he has just opened one in Pontefract as well, near the hospital iirc,so it definitely gets my seal of approval.
We have used it on many an occasion, the most recent being last week,as we have just had a new kitchen fitted, and had no cooker for a day or two.
Theres a lot of curry houses on attercliffe road, great quality and very cheap too.
I used to work nightshift in a factory behind the retail park near the arena. and weed regularly send out for a ruby on friday nights, generally theyd deliver within 30 mins, they`d also chuck in a few botltes of coke and loads of free extras (bags of bombay mix, chippattis etc)
plus as we fininshed work in the early hours of sat morning, due to the abundance of steam rooms in the area, we where able to stop off for a sauna before going home
