Just because you are in the EU does not make you civilised, nor does it make you palatable, infact, quite the opposite.
I have had the displeasure of working amongst them for two weeks now, I have had enough…I am chucking the towell in.
My experience is that of rudeness, ignorance and low intelligence…I am qualified to comment and gave the benefit of the doubt to start with, but now…I realise they are just third world refugees, who do not fit into a civilised country such as the UK.
Just my experienced opinion after two weeks in Lincolnshire.

Yeah, I’ve heard them say that about Brits they have had to work with before. Still never mind, I’m sure you’ll find something more suited to you soon.

I doubt it very much…Seems decent morals, values and good old fashioned manners and consideration for others, is at an all time low…I can`t afford to mix with these sort, no matter what nationality they may be.
I just want to kill them, as in literally, rip off their poxy heads

Forget it, move on, life’s too short. You’ll get something else.

Same applies to you, and I don’t need to bring my 6 years of work experience of working with Britons to prove it - you just did it yourself
I would also risk a statement that if it’s “quite the opposite”, you mean that joining EU made us uncivilised etc. So that explain your behaviour: you are a Briton, and Britain is member of EU for much longer than any Eastern European country. That explains your uncivised behaviour
I think I have come across far more rude, uncivilised and ignorant English people than east Europeans, but then again I don’t judge any person by their race or where they come from, I judge them on their own merits.
Low intelligence might make some people judge others like that though…just sayin

Having travelled throughout Europe and beyond, I tried to learn a little of each country’s language, the first words I learned were please and thank you, not many immigrants do the same when they come to England
Now I earn my corn in North America so there’s no language barrier (well… ) but their version of English does not include please and thank you, I get plenty of ‘have a nice day’s’ but generally their manners are appalling
A lot of people over here comment on how polite we Brits are, bearing in mind that none of us here are upper class twits, I’m a big mouthed lorry driving Londoner, we ain’t exactly known for talking with a plum in our mouths
I have a lot of dealings with Eastern Europeans over here, any truck on Illinois plates will be manned by the shiny tracksuit and flip flop squadron, they’re animals with no regard for anyone else
dessy:
They (East Europeans) are just different to British people when it comes to manners!!
I wonder what they think of Brits!!
Well, it’s not a big deal. I can tell you that:
Wise Eastern European do not judge people by their nationality, but by who they are - just as wise Britons do. Some less smart ones believe in some stereotypes. And when it comes to complete idiots, more stupid they are, more likely they are to say bad things about you, use some unjust generalisation and say things which are offensive to you.
As you can see from this thread, we are not so different after all
I don’t have a problem with east Europeans Orys!! When the first arrivals came in 2003/04! I worked with a great lad from Poland who done his Class 1 test here in London and still as far as I know works for the same company! He and his girl worked their asses off for 3 years to buy a house in Chingford which they did and moved in without hardly any furniture! A great fella who wanted to come and be apart of this society!!
There are the good and bad in every society, Polish not the only ones, as others have said, we’re not all good
I do have one problem thou, Its the companies which take immigrants in and pay them less, just because they can, as they will work for a few £ less a hour
Im not alone to notice either no pay rise or even a Pay cut over the last 3 to 5 years, Its not all down to recession either.
Have you thought that those you been working with are just as much fed up with the low wages? or the crappy hours?

Me too.
Our packhouse is mostly staffed by people from Latvia and they are perfectly pleasant, polite and helpful.
It must be said that rude, uncivilised and ignorant people do seem to meet more of the same than those of us who can treat others with a bit of respect.
This comes as a surprise to me, since moving to Poland the one thing that stood out when I first arrived was the culture. Last time I was in the UK doing some work, it seems grunting was a way of greeting an arrival into a room. Here I will shake hands, address them formally, then once I know them that can soften a bit to a more informal approach, its very civilised. I do not recognise your broad and sweeping generalisation of central and eastern European culture one bit, although Americanisms are creeping in, so I will expect a decline in standards in a generation or two.
If anyone had taken time to read my OP, you would have seen that I have drawn up my conclusions through experience.
I have been working in a place that is 70% Eastern Euppis and 30% Brits.
The people on the dispatch desk are Eastern Euppies…I have had enough of being ignored, whilst stood at the desk, while as soon as a Eastern Euppie comes in, they are right with them
I have asked other Brit drivers if this is normal…Apparently it is, so I gave it a couple of weeks to see if it would change, I was very polite to all, but alas…It has made no difference
So I shall not behave like others, just to get what I want, I shall retain my politeness and my dignity.
I am surprised, because in a prvious life I employed Polish, Romanian and they were brilliant, I worked with a Slovak guy in my last job and he was very nice, dependable and friendly…Just at this place, it seems the bods behind the desks have been allowed to treat drivers like ■■■ and it is now in the culture of the place.
Bloody shame, as the money is good, the tackle is good and plenty of hours if you want them, I just can`t abide being treated like a second class citizen, by what is essentially an immigrant in my own country
So your OP has nothing to do with Eastern Europeans, rather that the people on a despatch desk are difficult to deal with
It certainly doesn’t read that way.
I could introduce you to both despatch and goods in staff who would test the patience of a saint, all of them natives of the UK.
We, ie the British, are really not very good at “service”, another sweeping generalisation, I know, but true, nevertheless.

You could be right…But why show favour to your own comrades, whilst treating the Brits less favourably? That in my book, is discrimination…Which I beleive is illegal in the workplace.
I agree up to a point with the op,there’s some who work on the agency at Crick and they are the most ignorant, arrogant a-holes but then theres the odd one who is ok.
I hate the fact that when one works behind the goods in counter and one of their countrymen comes in they start jibber jabbering away in their own lingo, which i tbink us bloody ignorant when youve een standi g there for ages, but thinking about that it happens in most cash and carrys in London with the Asians!!!
Theirs good and bad in all races I suppose.
Never had a bad experience with a European but I always try and set off on the right foot, hand shake, greeting in there language and then continue in English and things work, I have faced more ignorance and displeasure whilst working amongst welsh, scots, Irish etc me being English
