East London today

Winseer:
Blackwall tunnel northbound used to be marked as 13’4", but the ever-continuing load of (mostly foreign) vehicles that needed to use the special escape sliproad wasn’t going away

Really, with those pesky foreign vehicles being 4m ■■? :grimacing:

The blackwall tunnel is marked at 4m and 13 foot when if my schoolboy maths is correct should be 13.4.
I got to the tunnell with a 4 m trailer and the lights flashed up quite misleading.

4 mtrs is 13 feet 1 31⁄64 inch

The Palletline hub at Perivale is marked up with a bridge height, and you have to go slow under the bridge to clear it, too fast and the trailer will bump up and hit it.

Iirc the guidelines for measuring bridges go something like this:

Bridges should be measured, by rounding down to the next 3", then 3" is to be subtracted from that figure. Consideration should be taken for large vehicles, ie a steep hill immediately after the bridge or a sharp turn. The figure is to be the MAXIMUM SAFE HEIGHT a vehicle can be in order to safely pass under the bridge.

When you see a bridge marked at eg 13’ 4" I would be very wary. as that doesn’t conform to the guidelines and could quite possibly only be 13’ 4", but a 15’ 9" trailer should safely pass under a marked 15’ 9" bridge with at least 3" clearance.

I personally set my height marker at 13’ 3" when pulling a 4m trailer, no point setting it at 13’ 1 31/64" as bridges should be marked in 3" multiples.

Yeah but I thought you lived in Canada, what you doing on a Cockerny walkabout?

I missed pie and mash chas and Dave and millwill fc
