Earnings _ straight and simple

hi all , can you all be straight with me here , i work in a gatehouse doing front man dutys now , i work 6 shifts (12 hours )per shift and have 3 days off , so its 6 on 3 off , i get paid monthly and average £1100 per month in net take home. ive just passed my class 2 and got my initial cpc done and dusted just awaiting digi card and then im gonna get out there job hunting in liverpool north west areas…my question is will i or wont i earn more money than i am now ■■?

i am after honesty here about class 2 , i know class 1 will be better money im doing that early next year but need to get out of here now and really want to get out there.
thanks in advance people

Well here you normally get same rate fro Cat C & CE which is about £7.50 per hr ( ok some pay a bit more some a bit less & some done pay breaks some do ) night out normally average about £20

HTH

6 on then 3 off means you could drive on at least one of those 3 days and possibly two as long as the EU weekly rest rules are adhered to so join a few agencies

That would bump up your income and allow you to get some idea of the current situation in your area as well as getting some of that elusive experience

Unless you can get lucky somewhere you may find yourself on less an hour but make up the difference in more hours. Depends what you want to settle for really. Set yourself a bench mark hourly rate and don’t settle or anything less. You may find you have to take what comes at first to get your foot in the door someplace. You gotta start somewhere. Best of luck though!

it takes me 216 hours to earn £1100 , 6.15 per hour that works out at before tax , 5.09 net…

so am i right in saying if i was to work 216 hours over a 4 week period on average class 2 wages im not going to earn what i do now… ?

if any class 2 drivers are reading this can i have truth please

I just did up here in the North East the average is £7.00-£7.50 per hr on Cat C or CE makes no difference £20 night out sorry dont live in your area so cant answer that

Some pay monthly some pay weekly

Few years back company I worked for was anything upto 7.5 t £6.50 per hr £7.50 Cat C & CE if you did a night out you were payed £20.00 non taxable

Remember though some do pay a meal allowance some dont

You could call up a few company in your area & ask what they pay :bulb:

cheers for replys so basically the people who say there earning like £350-400 net take home per week are talking [zb]

Nope that is about average & easy to achieve

If you want to earn 30k + a year then that may be a bit harder

Was this week but do sometimes start on a sun also sometimes work a sat

Or if last week just had the sun off now have to make the time up as worked sat

Depends entirely where you work. There’s no flat rate for C drivers. It ranges from about £6 p/hr to about £9 p/hr in the north west. Get on the job centre website and see what’s been on offer. Some people might be earning £400 a week driving Cat C, but they might be one of the lucky ones in a decent paid job. Like I said before, RESEARCH whats available in your area and set yourself a limit of the least hourly rate you’ll work for. It will help if your able to travel further (ie not just in your town).

My brother used to work on security and he could earn £1100 a month easy jut putting in the hours, with driving you might be on more money but you might be limited to what hours you can work. On the other hand you’ll probably be on more per hour anyway so it’ll even it out.

Don’t just aim to get your licence on the principle that you’ll earn more money.

RESEARCH!!!

Class 2, you’ll be lucky if you’re taking home anything between 200-300 a week(realistically more likely to be somewhere between 150 and 250 after tax). Based on normal working hours and home every night etc…

There are a very small number of exceptions to this such as night shift work, some tipper work, or specialised vehicles, or tramping/maxed out hrs, or generous companies which may pay slightly more, but it’s generally pretty unusual to see even those class 2s taking home any more than 350 after tax if honest.

Bear in mind that you will most likely be grafting for your money too. Every single penny of it if you’re class 2/multidrop

…and by the way… that’s if you even find work in the 1st place

Up to you really depending on what job offers you may or may not have in the pipeline… but that’s the “straight and simple” reality on the wages side of things, seeing as you asked.

Btw, if you’re gonna be doing agency work, remember that it’s not guaranteed and pretty much “as and when” they need you. So some weeks you may be getting little or possibly even no hours at all. And if you don’t get any hours… well then your “earnings” for that week will be even less than the next guy down the road who’s on the dole.

Im from Middlesbrough and our class 2 get £330 p/w after tax that’s for 60hours (57 1/2 paid) £6.42 p/h they are on

Multidrop drivers rate is around £7.50 to £8.00 p\h here. There are companies around this way advertising for HGV class 2 drivers with a £6.08 \ £6.50 flat hourly rate. HIAB and ADR normally tip the £8.00+ p\h rate. Milk tanker drivers are normally on £7.00 \ £7.50 flat hourly rate again.

cheers for the honesty people, i will be looking for work on my days off to start with on class 2 , but class 1 is the main goal for permenant work as soon as i can fund it .

cheers again just needed honesty not people and adverts in papers etc filling my head full of bull****

If you find the good companies it can pay well…

I’m salaried for 47.5hrs week, paid every 4 weeks. Normally work under that, though and am still paid the full salary. After tax it’s about £460.
