on a salary so it doesn’t matter what day/time or shift length , its just the same . also found out recently that starting on a sunday afternoon instead of midnightish for a 8 am delivery just means you get more work done for same money ie less per hour

We get £10 if we start before 4, goes on payslip as a bonus so is not taxed. I’d argue that any time I take a 9 off should be classed as an early start but I’d be wasting my breath!

A bonus is taxable. Hope the boss pays the unpaid tax when the Inland Revenue find out cos otherwise someone could have a big penalty to pay. Luckily my boss paid everything so I did not lose out.

Maybe I’ve got that wrong and it is taxed, maybe it’s just the night out money that’s not taxed.

Not strictly true. A mate of mines bonus isn’t taxed for the first £3600 per year.
Normal start time is 0400 to 0500, all I get is the chance to cycle into work with very little traffic around, which is always a bonus.

Then it isn’t a ‘bonus’. N O money and meal allowance isn’t normally taxed (there are strict rules) but all bonuses, even those £multimillion ones that the w̶ bankers get.
