E-petition to get VAT removed from fuel

Saw this on the old facebook.

would certainly help on your private car but removing VAT from fuel wont make the slightest difference to the haulage industry in general {ok it might help cashflow but wont save any money in the long run}

Could make a difference to the firms struggling with cash flow. And would simplify the end of year accounts. Haulage should get a duty rebate IMO.

Dont think it would make any difference as the majority of haulage businesses are VAT registered anyway and can claim it back already, I do. Needs more of a subsidy to claim to lower the price before VAT.

we need the same as the bus companys get, essential user rebate, or something along them lines

just found the rebate they get on fuel duty, shocking how we dont get it

Bus Service Operators Grant

The Bus Service Operators Grant (formerly Fuel Duty Rebate) is a scheme that refunds some of the Fuel Duty incurred by operators of registered local bus services in the United Kingdom. In 2006 the grant repaid 81% of duty paid on ultra low sulphur diesel fuel, and 100% for bioethanol, biodiesel and liquefied petroleum gas.[1]

Rates as per 1 April 2010.[2]

Couldn’t agree more … shame our Government and most of the public don’t consider wagons to be essential. :unamused:

Would van drivers then try to join in?

“We’re an essential service too guv!”

What, nicking diesel and metals is an essential service?? :imp:

If van drivers want in then they should be brought into the operator licensing system, six weekly safety checks and an extra test + dcpc to drive commercially.

I think its a joke that they stick vat on after duty. How can you tax duty tax. That’s a ■■■■ take of the highest order. Just sorting that would take about 12p off a litre to the public. We should definitely get a rebate on duty in this industry. However our government would rather watch hauliers go skint and get no duty… or vat… or corporation tax… or employers contributions… or staff taxes… and pay out benefits to the staff that lost their jobs… and house them…

They’d quickly shy away.

Any rebate offered to hauliers wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference.
