If claiming benefits and take three flights abroad per year it will flag up an investigation and audit in to the claimant’s private financial affairs, the DWP and HMRC have been able to snoop around bank and savings accounts for years, the checks on going abroad will be a red flag.
that will screw up the eastern europeans… oh wait no they claim hardship and that they are missing their families so the dwp pay for their flights.
i can see issues though. Suppose my girlfriend lived in portugal. You can get a cheap ryan air flight for less than 50 quid. so i could go every month for a week
If claimg benefits and taking 3 flights a year.
I very much doubt anyone on benefits will be taking 3 holidays abroad a year. Anyway.
Just government making it look like there doing something about fraudsters.
If government wants crack down on all this they should just stop disability cars.
Sorry if harsh.
But why should they all get cars?.
I work hard own a 8 year old focus .
I’d love a new car but can’t afford one.
Yet know few people on benefits that drive brand new cars and nothing wrong with them.
The whole system stinks needs a overhaul
i tend to agree in a way. Truly disabled people need a way of getting about. a wheel chair isnt always a viable option for all sorts of reasons. Give them a mobility scooter so they can get out and about.
the majority of people on benefits dont get a mobility car. they buy a new one on hp. those that do get a car on mobility are limited to i thnk if used to be 5000 miles a year or they get heavily penalised
Is that a good way for a “truly disabled” person to get to work?
Some one who may have mobility issues can still turn in and do a good job of work, possibly at a desk. But they may not find it easy to use public transport. That is what the cars are for.
What’s wrong with a blue fibreglass three wheeler?
I imagine that some miraculous recoveries would be witnessed.
Kind of agree .
I know someone she just took delivery or brand now electric Skoda kodiaq.
There’s nothing much wrong with her if honest.
But why do the need a car worth 40k plus.
Why are disabled cars mostly big n decent.
Why can’t they be given a Corsa fiesta something cheaper smaller would save the government a fortune.
Unless they need to take a wheelchair etc out all the time just give them a small car instead of a huge 4x4 thing
that is the main criteria…
it wouldnt save money though as they get a higher rate of dla (mobility component) they can either use that money to help them get around or spend it on a mobility car. Either option is the same cost to the tax payer
the choice of car is important to. got to weigh in depreciation value. i suspect a 2 year old corsa would of lost more money than a skoda/
Motability is an independant charity and the largest leaser of cars in the UK. The only money it gets from the government is when individuals sign over their high rate PIP/DLA, War pensions etc. They are able to negotiate deals with manufacturers etc and somtimes get great deals when the manufacturer wants to gain new registrations for a particular model. The deals are for at least 3 years. The choice is because different disabilities have different access needs, often people cant get into a corsa etc without pain. I know it is the case with my wife and when choosing we have to visit a few showrooms to get it right. To get a bigger car you have to pay an advanced payment which you dont get back at the end of the lease, these can run to several thousands if you want a bmw/mercedes etc.
That is not to say the system is not abused. I know of some who use family members benefits. They get round it by using the vehicle to occasionally visit/ take out the family member although the rules are changing to stop that.
It means my wife can live an independent life and i run a cheap motor for work as it is sat in the depot car park most of the time.
