quick question,
mate of mine is doing agency driving on a gully sucker for a utilities company…
all he has to do is drive because they have their own operative on the machine…
he asked me to ask on here for your opinions on this :-
they use lengths of flexible hose , similar to those you see on petrol tankers…
these are stored away in side trays on the vehicle, and held there only by their own weight…
he reckons, and I agree with him , that they should be secured by a couple of straps or leather buckles, or even a bit of rope…
would DVSA get stroppy about it ■■?
he’s the driver and he’ll be the one getting fined if it isn’t secure. If in doubt, throw a strap or 2 over it.
a couple of hose tubes would do the trick…ask the boss to fit them, or maybe vosa will tell him when you get pulled and fined.
Any load must be secured by a means other than " it’s own inertia" in other words its own weight is not sufficient to secure the load. That’s why you see giant 10 tonne boulders strapped down! if the pipes can come out they are insecure. That is a Driver and Operator offence.
You would have to be cornering a death defying speed speed for the hose to bounce out of the trays and if it did happen u would have bigger problems than a hose on the road, any DVSA bod would know this, crack on, safe loads do have a degree of common sense despite what the CPC gurus tell us.
