DVS kit - would you give it back now?

So, after the moaning and grumbling we all did at the time (me included) about the cost, etc. of fitting all this kit, who would happily remove it now?

For my part, I wouldn’t want to be without the n/s camera; it’s so bloody handy and has probably saved a few claims by now.

To be fair, some of this is down to the different manufacturers and installation methods. My camera is on all the time (without a speaker) and the n/s alarm does not beep falsely like many do.

Looking forward to answers on this

GCR2ERF:
. My camera is on all the time

Mine is on a 2 second delay from the left indicator, hoping to reduce that.

I’ve seen some with a master switch.

I forgot to add, the T/L audible alert has an on/off switch.
The thing that did surprise me (and it shouldn’t have, really) was how little notice any joker takes of it, especially in London…

One early summers evening going around the M25 the only way I could look behind me on the N/S was using the camera as the sun was shining in the mirror all the time :imp:
That truck had a good camera on it and the monitor was above the hand brake on the dash , not way over on the N/s door Pilar :imp: or like my current truck above my head by the Tacho unit :imp: :unamused:
Both are XF’s and the door Pilar one was a TGX

My truck has these cameras on both sides, when you’re indicating right it comes up on the monitor, which is by the hand brake lever in the middle of the dash and I need to look to my right, so, for right turns its useless…

On the dafs i drive they are mounted on the door piller and they are useless, the glare at night is so bad you carnt see through the normal mirrors and the picture is very grainy.

On the batch on new MAN’s we got the screen is in the centre and it works ok, which is good because they got quite a blind spot down the near side.

The first batch of mainly retrofitted setups were awful with screens on the nearside door pillar of questionable quality, audible alarm that deafen you, or were so abrupt that it almost brought on a heart attack normally at just the moment where you could do with a bit of concentration (ie when turning), or simply just went off for no reason.

But as tge tech has advanced and they’ve become a sort of manufacturer fitment they’ve improved, for instance on our Volvo it’s integrated into the media/radio display, the proximity sensor is more accurate etc etc and overall when it’s like that it’s a no brainer tool to help usand for me that’s a good thing.
