why bother sending a letter which includes alterations telling me to ignore the letter i am reading?

Because your situation is different to the ânormâ i.e. you were changing an old style licence as well as apply for your digi-card.
Remember that much of this process is computerised to reduce time/costs and this letter is probably part of the automated process.
Depending on if âyour glass is half full or half emptyâ, iâd personally read through that and be gratefull that was at least some sort of âcommon sense human interjectionâ that made the changes to the default standard letter, thereby letting you know that your card will be delivered to you.
Either way, the end result is that you will be getting your new photocard type licence and your digi-card, all delivered to your door.
Sounds easy to me!

looks like a âmodifiedâ standard letter to me too
anyway, must be nice to them! Iâve just sent them a D4 and my licence for renewal
scanny. you are very lucky. sorry for the length of this rant but you will see why.
a good friend of mine who has worked behind the bar of my local pub ( yes euromat that guy who served you ) for 15 years does not drive very much. recently he was stopped by the police during the âring of steelâ that was put round ipswich during the prostitutes murder hunt. anyway he went to find his driving licence to produce it and could not find it. so he called dvla to see about getting a duplicate. to be told âyou do not existâ â â ?. after much toing and frowing he went to the test station where he took his test and asked for the guy who passed him to be told he retired 3 years ago and had died. so he explained the situation to be told they only keep records for 12 years. he passed his test 20 years ago. so he then contacted the company that took over godfrey davis car hire where he worked for 2 years as thay had taken a copy of his licence but to no avail as the manager had long since departed and no records of employees where kept that long. not to be put off by this he then contacted his insurance company who did no more than cancel his car insurance and would not look through thir records in case they had a copy â â . he then remembered they hired a car when they went to spain 3 years ago. he made contact with alamo car rental who said we dont have a copy but we have all your details. bingo. after alot of faxes proving his identity he got the details. fowarded them to swansea along with a sworn affadavid from his current employer who had also seen his driving licence to be told. âthose numbers and details have never been issuedâ you still do not have a driving licence. then last week alamo car rental at heathrow contacted him to say we have a copy of your licence its a bit faded but its readable. bingo you would have thought. oh no yesterday evening around 19.00 hrs 2 cid called at his house and arrested him for trying to obtain a licence for himself using someonelses name and address etc e. after one hour and alot of phone calls they accepted their had been a big mistake. swansea this morning will still not budge. they have advised him to apply for a provisional and take a retest. crazy or what. end of rant
I copied mine before I sent it off
( and my daughters because she passed her C test this morning )
only trouble is, now that really makes me feel old
what do you mean feel â â ?
.
as i said he now has a verified copy and they still wont accept it even though the signatures match everything. they are right everyone else is wrong.
Some similar situations to this were covered in a post not too long ago (but I donât have time to search just now) and it is not exactly âuncommonâ, hence the requirement of a precautionary photocopy prior to sending off your licence etc.
The lad I knew in a similar situation had passed his test 15 years previously, served in the army as an ATO No 2 (bomb disposal, blue light trained driver) and during his move from/to UK/N.Ireland (DVLA/DVLNI) he dissapeared off any records. No âevidenceâ that he produced would change the mind of Swansea and he had to do his test again also!!!
cheers. i must have missed that post. if you find it let me know. thanks
latest update. dvla will not budge. however in a twist of fate the 2 cid are also trying to help him as he remembers having a producer around 7 years ago. so they are trying to trace that record also. in the hope that more evidence will sway them. but after reading the post above i doubt it.

there must be something he can do !! what about taking the story to the Newspapers or his MP
local rag only interested in prositution at the moment. pardon the pun but its the âinthingâ at the moment with the trial coming up. and local mp. well a joke is a good thing so wont use that word. think of a word that begins with w middle letter is k and ends in r and its not winker.
local mp not having a surgery till june and his secretary reckons he could not grt involved. what a prat.

I think it was this one:

I copied mine before I sent it off
so did i. in colour, front and back. my agency thought i had given them the original
the thing is, my photocard came back 3 weeks ago and my digicard arrived on saturday. the letter arrived yesterday
still, i am relieved that all went well and everything came back sorted out. they even took 3 points off without me paying for it
thanks. very similar circumstances. but now dvla are saying they wont accept a photocopy â â . as in thier words âthe numbers on the licence have never been issuedâ. the plot thickens. at the end of the day my mate only has a car licence and he has contacted a local driving school who will give him a refresher course and a test date for ÂŁ250.00 so it may not be all that bad apart from he has had to give in to the numptys called dvla.

Thanks mrpj, I think that was the one although I didnât realise it was so long ago!
ÂŁ250 for retraining might not seem too bad but in Johnâs case (the lad I mentioned above) his insurance premiuims went up LOTS, in line with a newly qualified driver. There are potentially more âhiddenâ costs from being a ânewâ driver. Best had he donât get 6 points in 2 years!!!

R Slicker, that is disgusting and you should go to The Sun or Mirror or whichever paper has got it in for the DVLA at the moment. Itâs beyond belief.
updateâŚ
he has given in. he will take a 2 hour âlets see your bad habitsâ drive on friday. test on monday 14.00. ÂŁ250.00 quid lighter. however he is also planning on seeing a breif to see if it would be possible to sue dvla for incompitence. will keep you all posted on this one as my mate is like a ferrett. once he gets his teeth in he wont let go till they touch. he has spoken to his insurance company and as ip4 postcode is one of the cheapest to insure in they reckon it wont make that much difference. we will see.
i would goto the local MP,the papers & take DVLA to court.
The examiner took my licence off me on Saturday to send to DVLA to get my class 1 addedâŚhope it comes back with all my entitlements.
thanks. first 2 covered in posts above i wont even go there again it makes my blood boil.
btw well done on passing your class 1.
