Just bought a used truck from a main dealer
Got it tested and insured but turns out they can’t find any documents…
The salesman has moved on which doesn’t help
Swansea tell me without a logbook I need to fill in a V62 and cough up 25 quid…and wait up to 6 weeks ? ? ?
The dealer has done this for me but do I really have to wait this long for DVLA before I can start work ?
I’ve set a man on to drive it and can’t let customer down…
It might take 6 weeks for the log book to come back but you can drive it straight away
But they’re telling me I can’t tax it without the logbook with it being a change of owner
Think i would be asking dealer for a substitute motor till problem is resolved.
Has your regional DVLA office closed yet, if not, try there?
Driving untaxed is £60 FP but no points so you could just roll the dice on getting pulled.
Get a temparory log book at dvla office. They last a year & cost next to nothing & are issued while you wait.

This is the route I would be taking I think. If they’ve lost the documents it’s clearly their fault so they should be lending you something until it’s sorted.
Paul
Thanks for the replies
I will have to try the DVLA local office if it’s still there…didn’t know about the temp. log book…the ‘expert’ at Swansea didn’t mention it, only that using it without tax is an offence
Chatfields have forked out for a new logbook to be posted straight to me…
It doesn’t help that they have just made the guy in sales redundant who might just know where the new owner portion of logbook is sat (and possibley plating cert)
Asking them for another vehicle with tipping gear is not likely to be fruitful
I will post after a trek to DVLA
I went to the DVLA office in Leeds and got a result…!
Paid £1225 for a years tax and new logbook…the temp logbook is for those wanting to take a truck abroad…
So why didn’t the experts at Swansea tell us this ?
Result, glad that worked out.
£1225?

£1225?
£1200 for a years road tax & £25 for the replacement log book.
Getting the all those mummy on top of that, dad this you decide like the firm is undoubtedly an already present at this point.

All the regional offices are closing by the end of this year so I would think in terms of advice offered by Swansea they’re already dead to them.
As evidenced here this is a cutback which will turn into a PITA. Even worse most of them look like they’ve had £ks spent on refurbishment and flat screen TVs playing infommercials recently before promptly being axed. I bet there’s way more fat that could be trimmed at Swansea to save ten times as much.
How many Indians are living in Swansea? I think they cut the fat a long time ago.

You could’ve always rented short term, frustrating but don’t roll the dice at all as a new operator as if you get caught, they be up you quicker than a ferret up a trouser leg.
