Dutch megaliner in Germany

Spotted a Wim Bosman 25.5m megaliner (drawbar unit pulling a 13.6m tilt on a dolly) southbound on the A3 just after the Elten border crossing last week.

I would imagine that they must be running on a Sondergenehmigung (special permit) from the Germans and will be probably be restricted to the section of autobahn from the border down to the Emmerich exit in order to access their hub in 's-Heerenberg.

Tentative cross border raid prior to European ■■■■■■■■■■

TNT run them outfits seen 1 at deventer i thought wtf wen i saw it

Hi Pete.

Yes, these megaliners are becoming increasingly popular with several firms in Holland, where they have been in operation for a couple of years.

They are either as described above: a drawbar unit pulling a full length artic trailer or an artic pulling a drawbar tandem trailer (this seems to be the preferred setup for TNT).

The point I was trying to make was, this is the first time I have seen one IN GERMANY.

There is a firm up north called Combitrans who were using these megaliners years ago to shuttle boxes between Hamburg and Lübeck on the A1.
They had a special permit from the highways authority and were only allowed to run on a specified route.
A 20 foot box on the unit with a 40 foot box on the trailer.
Don’t know whether they still do this or if the whole operation has been shifted to rail.

Looking at the load capacities of those vehicles (artics and this LZV), what kind of weight limits they do have in Netherlands? The alleged 31500 kg load on a five axle curtainsider artic, like in the drawing, seems a bit high to me as do 40 tonnes on a LZV drawbar outfit.

Looking the pictures on the Wim Bosman website you can see that (at least in those pictures) rigid pulling the dolly+semi has swap body superstructure and taillift, which would made GVW with 40 ton load to be around 62 to 64 tonnes unless everything is very lightly built which always isn’t visible.

Btw. there was also picture of this long vehicle driving into the Germany past the border sign.

I still see them sometimes on the A1. Last night I saw a 25.25m combination parked in an industrial estate next to A30 near osnabrück and Marcotran has a 25.25m combination standing in front of their compound in Pedrola for some reason, its the first time Ive seen a drawbar plus a single axle dolly and a triaxle semitrailer combination though.

Like you Inselaffe, I thought they were restricted to national work, so seeing a Dutch one in Germany seems a bit odd.
A general rule of thumb for Holland seems to be 10 tonnes per axle. Not sure about these though.

Any of the mega trailers running in Germany will have to
be in possession of a permit for the complete vehicle
also it will have a dedicated route written in the permit
, from which they must only use ,
