Dustbin Waggons

Been offered a start on the bin wagons through agency, What are they like to drive ,Do you get training on them ,Have not driven hgv since passing test in November last year. Any advice or experiences with them will be most welcome .
Thanks Jonny74

You pick it up as you go along

Load of rubbish if they ask you to take anything home just REFUSE

If it is auto then it’s easy - stick forward to go back and stick back to go forward - daft aint it
stick in middle of above for neutral

NEVER collect and then reverse - ALWAYS collect and then move forwards
unless you want to chance running over your workmates!!

You’ll usually find that the folks working in your crew know exactly what you need to do and when to do it - they will usually act as banksmen but remember it is still YOUR responsibility

You will usually find that your crew will know how to operate the external features

If its household door to door collections then it will be on domestic regs not EU regs

Expect to go into zbing tight arse places and block up roads with women yelling at you to move because if you dont their child will die.

youll more than likely get a training day or 2, the trainer will go through all controls , some trucks will have rear steer axels which in most cases can turn off. dont let the crew rush you as most dust/refuse jobs maybe job and finish, and crews wil want to fly around and get home. as for reversing use your mirrors as well as the reversing camera, the trainer should go through everything with you. good luck

Just remember to pull up next to parked cars so you block the entire road instead of pulling up 6ft further away and you`ll fit the job perfectly

+1

And also expect people in jags thinking you owe them your life because you are the lowest of the low.

I once got banned from a route due to me telling some one like him to **************** off

wow! bloody hell.

also when we get the snow expect people to moan at you the fact you cant get down their road, even though they cant go to work because of bad driving conditions. at the end of the day if they want a 26 ton dustcart sliding down their road either crashing into their car, house or knocking someone down. either way you cant win. its a youre dammed if you do and a dammed if you dont job. we even had someone ring up and compalin that their rubbish hadn`t been collected on xmas day. lol

top and rear end heavy when loaded and empty thanks to all the hydraulics in them. If you’re doing wheelie bins and you have to participate in loading, watch for the bins falling into the back of the lorry and you having to retrieve them! also, mind the rear-end swing…
