About 21 passengers were injured as the aircraft from China to Canada hit severe turbulence, anything not secure was thrown in the air hitting the roof .
In my opinion, they may attempt to sue for injuries, good luck with that one then, the safety cards tell you to keep the seat belts on in case of turbulent conditions.
Secondly, passengers who were terrified of their ordeal, said the aircraft nosed dived quickly, well durr, what do you expect, remain at the same flight level, or reduce alternative altitude for a calmer flight, the pilots executed a text book emergency action, Freight Dog where are you, he will back me up here

You’re calling them dumb because In your opinion they MAY sue…but you don’t actually know whether they will sue or not■■?
Also if they hit turbulence the pilot won’t have had sufficient notice to warn passengers to fasten seat bels…there ain’t no signs on the clouds “warning turbulence ahead 500 yards” and passengers only have to have seat belts on during take off and landing so maybe the ones injured didn’t but they weren’t braking the law.
