Don’t get you’re hopes up of finding work too quickly. Plenty of drivers looking for work and going up by the day (Comet) and most jobs going are working for agencies who are taking the ■■■■ with wages.

Good luck

I would imagine that after 22 years the OP will have a full pension so maybe he will be ok with part time agency driving for a while until he gets a bit of civvy driving under his belt ?

OP - get the resettlement bods to get you 35 hours of periodic dcpc before you leave - that will give you the right to drive LGVs commercially in civvy street until 09/09/2019

At the moment you only have that right until 09/09/2014 assuming you either passed car test before 1997 or passed a DSA LGV test before 09/09/2009

Thanks for the sevice to the country!
Now if you can hack winters, have experience in tanks…why not try canada, new start and all that.

Sorry to say but out here on civvy street you have no experience like a lot of other drivers

You could become an instructor

Of course he has experience he has just said what he had done, my advice after 30 years driving is don’t bother, after being in The Royal Marines go be a personal trainer or something along that line, the yummy mummies and wanna be tough guys would love you.

Well done to you mate, did 9 years in maroon machine and mates son is currently out in afghan with RM too. Stew J if ya know him!

But unfortunately right or wrong it dont reallly count on civvy street the same as army or Navy etc

Daughter mate is out in Afgan his 4th tour ( 25 in a few weeks )

Welcome aboard Royal, shouldn’t you be thinking of a bit of maritime security rather than truck aiming? I’ve been in this game for 16 yrs since leaving the Corps and I don’t know everything, but if you fancy a chat pm me.

I like it … and on top of that I will offer FREE (just pay the £8.75 upload) DCPC courses to anyone leaving the forces between now and the September deadline as long as they fit in with a course already running and don’t expect me to turn out on a Sunday for just them

I will of course require proof of service and leaving said service :unamused:

I’ve just left the merchant navy, does that count? and I am entitled to wear a uniform with four gold rings on the sleeve and have snot on me cap
(never have worn one though)

Awww … merchant navy is on the list for “you aint comin in”

I have two step brothers both ex- 3 para, they are both fully qualified personal protection officers , one of them worked previously for the Sultan of Brunei and the ex- president of Haiti , he is currently in the Arabian Gulf doing protection advisory reconnaissance work for their oil fields against Al- Qaeda and lives permanently in Pattaya Thailand ( tax exile ), the other is guarding army top brass in Bassra and just bought himself a brand new Nissan 370z. So i would give the driving a miss and get into that line of work, it pays much better.
