Starts at midnight tonight.
Be interesting to see if it turns out a shambles.
your over there a while now max.
you have seen the carry on.
of course it will be a fiasco like every thing else the irish government do.
that m50.
i remember when they started building it.
it was the same time as spain got the olympic games.
the spanish built the village in zona franca,
also the road from burgos to madrid.
this was a 3 lane road,approx 200 kms long[cant remember exactly]
they built another road alongside it. to make an autovia.
they must have used each council along the way to do the job similtaniously.
it was finished in 2 years if i remember correctly.
they are still building the m50in dublin,or at least adding an extra lane to it 20 years on.
road building in ireland is terrible.
lovely when the roads are finished, but the long wait,
and to think it was irish labour that built most of the british motorways, they didnt take too long doing that.
i think it says something about the managment in ireland.
people at the top who are not capable of organising things and getting overpaid.

Like any Westminster government’s IT projects.
The IRHA is considering a boycott as they have no alternative route.

The problem I see is electronic tags / ANPR. Don’t think the NRA are going to be all that successful in chasing non-state vehicles somehow.
So if I was to drive through with my NI reg, and failed to pay, what power do they have to track me and make me pay?

Happy Days when do they convert the M1?
ah [zb] just seen this www4.u.tv/news/NationalNews/inde … =1&local=0
Do you think they’ll chase you for €3?
They’ll try, but if you look at London CC, how many people bother registering their cars properly?
Debt is expensive to chase cross-border. Sounds like hot-air to me. All it means is the law abiding majority pay more.
Another thing with London CC, how big is the unpaid bill of the American Embassy? I suggest you get diplomatic plates for you lorry magnumboy
with everything computerised now.
if a NI or and other country reg is coming into ireland on a regular basis.
they will be caught eventually.
i am not siding with the rip off government.
but if you dont pay up,suppose you get stopped someday and they decide to hole you or impound the truck.
this is something i think they will be good at…collecting money.
they need plenty of it to keep themselves in the luxury they are used to.
theres 2000 outlets i hear, you can pay in any of them.
i think for the sake of the few euro…be easier to pay.
i remember the days of old knocing the peages in france and italy…i did this for years.
its not possible anymore.
the computer has seen to that.
I’ve had an EazyPass in the car for a few months now.
I got this email the other day:
Dear Eazy Pass Customer,
From Saturday 30th August 2008 the National Roads Authority (NRA) will commence Barrier Free Tolling on the M50, and the West-Link Toll Plaza will cease operations. Your Eazy Pass tag will automatically work with the new Barrier Free Tolling scheme and you will avail of the lowest toll charges on the M50.
Inevitably in a project of this scale, there will be initial teething issues with the transition to the new Barrier Free system. It is possible that some Eazy Pass customers may not have their tag correctly read and will receive by post a request for payment from the M50 operating company, eFlow. We apologise if you receive such a notice, but please follow the instructions on the notice and the notice will be cancelled and your normal billing applied.
We would ask all of our customers to ensure that their tag is correctly mounted in a tag holder in the middle of their windscreen and that the vehicle license plate details are up to date on their Eazy Pass account. This is essential to ensure that the new system is able to process your journey correctly. Please log into your account area on the Eazy Pass website and update your license plate details, if you havent recently done so. If you require a tag holder please email your tag number(s) to info@eazypass.ie.
The migration to Barrier Free tolling and, when complete, the upgrading of the roadway will bring significant travel time benefits for M50 users. We are delighted that you have chosen Eazy Pass as your electronic tolling service provider, and we look forward to offering you additional services, such as parking payment, in the future.
Regards,
Eazy Pass Customer Services

“there will be initial teething issues” WILL? Now there’s a promise!
“significant travel time benefits” My arse. Not until they finish the roadworks.
I believe it reads the tag & number plate. I wonder how well it works with non-euro style plates? (Certainly the ANPR at my old place of work used to miss-read my number plate more often than not)
I’ll test it later in the week.
