my new renault premium arrived late friday afternoon so this afternoon popped into work this afternoon to move my stuff over.
whilst there i noticed there was no operaters licence disc on display so i phoned my boss who told me its in the post and it will still be fine for me to go out in it on monday to do my run.is he right?can the truck still be used.
also i noticed theres only 1 cig/power output unlike my my volvo that had 2 12v hella and 24v normal so i assume the one in the renault is 24v but just above the socket theres a switch with a red led on it i presume to switch it to 12v but how can i test it as i dont want to blow my tv up AGAIN been there done that lol.i plugged in my rope light etc before and flicked the switch but they didnt go any lighter or duller
there should be 4 power points the cig lighter one just to the left of it behind a small plastic flap that you open to expose the point another a lot more to left by pass side behind same flap then up top were tv/microwave shelf there should be one in there
I believe that in the case of a brand new vehicle your boss is correct and it can be operated for a certain amount of time (dont know how long tbh) with no O-disc. I stand to be corrected on that though…
There is no requirement on the driver to display an “O” licence on a truck he is driving , If your boss has room for the new truck then he has up to a month to specify it on the licence and obtain the disc

24 volt bulb wired to a cig lighter plug, or just two bits of wire you can make contact with the points in the socket. If it glows brightly it is a 24 volt socket and if it glows dimly then it is a 12 volt socket.

Surly the drivers manual should state what the power output is and what the switch does.
im sure theres only one cig socket stvme there is a blanking plate next to it i popped that off and theres just the hole where the socket should be ill try the bulb test
thanks for the info on the o disc situation guys
jaffa im on for manlon transport in bredbury our new truck arrived thursday but didnt get told it was mine till friday afternoon which was a nice suprise as it was my birthday too nice present off the boss lol
On the “O” license disc. As long as your company has enough specified licenses to cover this vehicle, then he has 28 days in which to display a license disc in the screen. ( I am a CPC holder). That is why when hiring units companies have to take out a new agreement after 28 days or apply for a disc.
Dont know how the rules are nowadays in Europe,but several years ago, I was fined by the Belgians for failure to display an O-disc. Even though I had a receipt to show that i’d only bought the truck a week previously, and despite spending hours obtaining proof that i’d applied for the disc, I was still fined several hundred Belgian Francs. How does the law stand now, particularly with rented vehicles?

I certainly wouldnt have paid a fine to a belgian for not showing a disc. Are you sure you were not fined for not showing your authorisation
O-Licence;
provided there is a ‘margin’ on an Operator licence (number of vehicles authorised is greater than the number in possession) then a vehicle may be hired in for up to one calendar month before it needs to be specified on the licence and a disc obtained. The term used is ‘in possession’ so if the vehicle is in the yard or out on the road and the driver is employed by the Operator (directly or via agency) then the vehicle is in possession and the clock is ticking.
An employee driver (direct or agency) does not commit an offence if there is no disc displayed. Expect to get pulled into checksites more as VOSA / Police will want to know why there is no disc displayed.
There is no offence abroad of ‘failing to display’ an o-licence disc. The offence is failing to produce a Community Authorisation, have paid in France and Belgium for that one ( ), but haven’t we heard of ‘made-up’ offences elsewhere on this forum■■? Make sure that the the document you have is an ‘authorized copy.’ The ‘original’ with all the 0’s as its’ number should be left in the office. Watch out for expiry dates, more money in Belgium
