Driving without due care

Even if the mirrors are automatic, it is only a fuse or a minor fault, they can be pulled out by hand, just ask any transporter driver.

The above post regarding the bus timetable etc. is a little harsh…

Still, PMSL!!

Wheel Nut:
Ask her if she has ever seen a motorcyclist killed because a car driver didn’t see them?

She knows I have, not nice for anyone involved.

She’s atm moaning and groaning that the world is against her, I think i’m gonna email her a link to this thread, especially the timetables

i too believe that you dont need to have wing/door mirrors on your car, but you do need an interior mirror,or its one or the other, certainly get some legal advice, but that used to be the law, and if it hasnt changed, theres her defence.

This, from the MOT examiners check list for cars…

Obligatory mirrors.
An exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the driver’s seat).
An exterior mirror fitted to the nearside (left-hand side when seated in the driver’s seat).
An interior mirror.

Regards,
Nick.

You only need two “rear vision devices” on a car (if registered on or after 1 Aug 1978) for an MOT pass, one of which must show the view down the off-side of the vehicle though the other can show either an ‘interior/rear-view’ or near-side view. It doesn’t have to be a mirror, a camera and suitable display is also acceptable.

If registered before 1 Aug 1978, then only one “rear vision device” is required, and it can be in any of the 3 acceptable positions (i.e. near-side, off-side or rear-view).

Source: Section 8.1 of the 2012 MOT Inspection Manual sitting on my desk.

The new rules also state that the rear vision devices must be adjustable to gain a view to the rear.

I always believe that if youve made a mistake, admit it. Well i did, and i am. I didnt read the post properly, and asumed she had only driven a short journey. i was wrong about the validity of mirrors, as i was probably thinking about years ago when a vehicle only had to have an interior mirror, and exterior mirrors were bling`
Who remembers when truck mirrors woud fold in everytime something went past in the opposite direction, or when we had to tie string from the mirror arm to the front of the truck, but often drove blind till we could find somewhere to park and fix them.
On reflection however, there are a lot of drivers who annoy me with fog lights on when it rains, spot lights on for night driving, lack of indicators etc etc, but as professional drivers we are on the road almost everyday, and therefore know the rules and expectations, but, how many have driven back to their depot with a broken mirror, i have travelled back from eastern europe without a mirror, axles chained up etc, so we too are not perfect, but expect others to be because we do it for a living. There is no such thing as a perfect driver, whether you do it for a living or not, and we all make mistakes, maybe this was her biggest, harsh though it maybe, i dont believe she should lose her licence.

On your test its:

Turning left - mirrors
Turning right - mirrors
Driving in a straight line - mirrors
Speeding up - mirrors
Slowing down - mirrors

Its the one thing drummed into you (or should be!!) mirrors mirrors mirrors
