2 weeks ago I just got my car back from getting repaired after hitting a speed bump and cracking the sump. Car was running great afterwards and all seemed fine.
Last night I accidently got in the way of two pilloks racing each other down a side street. Only just managed to avoid them and put it down to experiance and slow down a little next time im using that street just incase they decide to have a re-race.
This evening coming down a road 2 minutes away from home having just driven 400 odd miles and got about half a mile to go, Passed a bad junction slowed down to about 25mph and noticed a car coming up to the giveway at a good speed. The car never stopped and I started accelerating to try clear the junction just as it happed. The airbags exploded, sending the car 180 degrees facing the other direction. Damage to the rear bumper, wheel arch, suspension and axle as well as side airbags.
The other drivers excuse? Did not know the road, was a stranger to the area!
Anyway, Just had to get that off my chest…
And the joke is… I just booked the car for a trip to Belguim on the ferry for next month… Will the car make it? Or Will I need to ring the ferry company to change the registrations to the other car!!! and theres no way im taking a fiat punto (With engine from Sewing machine!) courtasy car the 1200 miles round trip - That would be HELL!!!
Danny
P.S sorry if the spellings a bit “Off” - ive been into the vodka bottle!
we took a hired Punto on A circular tour of Ireland no problem for us started and finished in the dump Dublin. The car was fine .Lets face it between the UK and the Ardenne there aint no hills and you will be on a moterway most of the time so wheres the problem
you should try hams hall on sunday night when the "racers " are out …
one of those cars is destined for my side rails one night .
a load of em come hurtling down to the roundabout come screaming round it in all lanes and then back to the top where some [zb] is probably declared the winner
I think the poor standards of driving can now be put down to two causes, both of them linked.
People think driving is a “no skill” activity and like most travelling it’s just a chore to be got out of the way. The majority of drivers don’t think about the consequences of their not applying themselves to the best of their ability to the task in hand. The physical act of driving has now also been relogated to the bottom of the priority list of things they have to do in a moving car behind playing with the satnav, texting friends, eating, making appointments etc.
Not meaning to provoke an outcry of “racist bigot” but. We have a growing percentage of immigrants from countries where the driving test standards are not as high (yes, I know ours need work) as ours. These people are issued UK driving licences in order to make them legal and hopefully ensure they obtain insurance. Sadly the answer isn’t to make everyone train up to our standards and pass a UK driving test before being allowed to drive because what would really happen is that a huge number of these people would simply drive without the licence and therefore no insurance. I know that uninsured drivers is a problem but I tink it would be a much bigger one if you made obtaining a licence too much like hard work. Just another sign of our over-regulated society falling apart I’m afraid.
Actually, I’m thinking of becoming a “traveller”. Think about it. Free land in any beauty spot of your choosing. No income tax or national insurance contributions and therefore free healthcare, free dental care, free education and you live in the knowledge that you have the full support of John Prescott no less.
