Driving to Madrid

Hi, I will be double manning from london to madrid in a day cab 7.5 t, need a place to stop with accomadation, is aiming to be in spain after 20 hours to much?
Thanks

all along the French motorways you will find places to stop
which are cheap which way are you thinking of going as
this may help others to recommend a certain motel ,hotel
formule-1 and Ibis are two that spring to mind try

THIS

Have look on Google maps for the area you think you might get to.

I will be going, Calais, Rouen, Le Mans, Tours, Bordeaux, Donostia, Burgos, Madrid. I would prefer a secure truck stop with acomadation. As double manning how far south do you think i could get? Donostia,Burgos?

I once got to burgos in one stint double manned in a 7.5 tonner and that was from Manchester. Although it was before the limited 56 mph.

That will all rely on you and your co driver you can do 20hrs
of driving in a 21hr shift, if you use say 2and half hours to
get to the docks, and take 45mins to do the booking in
and get on the boat, put the tacho on rest whilst on
the boat, that,s say 1hr 25mins rest, you have roughly
16hrs 20mins left use this well and you could get say
1100kms down the road if there are no bad problems
en-route,you may get further take a look along your
chosen route and pick out 2 or 3 likely places where
you believe you might reach and see what motels are around
write these all down along with their telephone no,s and
when on the way book a room or decide now that you will
drive only so far and pre-book a room to be ready and
waiting and then carry on the next morning down to
the end destination

The Spanish runners on here will tell you about getting from the boat to Castets with one driver so with two you could be in Madrid if you remove your digit :stuck_out_tongue:

Calais to Castets solo, not without ‘running on the Emlyn’ for a few miles

(You’d never catch me doing that :unamused: )

Ross.

Hi we use hotels all the time.
France is excellent for hotels just off the motorways,
Formula 1s are cheap but you have to share the tiolet and shower with everybody else, for a few extra Euros, it’s about 35 euro a night, Etaps, Premiere Classe, B&B’s are good value. You get the same size room, but you also get a shower and tiolet en suite. These hotels all do a basic breakfast, but mostly don’t have resturants, although there is normally a Courtipile or Buffalo Grill nearby. Next up the chain is the Ibis and Campaniles at about 70 euro a night, most have resturants although being france they close about 10:00 pm. Most have a fenced off parking area, some are big enough to get trucks into some you may struggle to get in even with a 7.5 tonner.
Some good hotels near Calais, with resonably secure parking and enough room for trucks.
Tours Some near the Airport and a bit further down the near Poitiers is a place called Futuroscope A 10 Sortie 28 loads of hotels there.
If you use the N10 to Bordeaux, then there are some down there with parking for trucks, but I’ve never stopped at any of them.
Bordeaux keep an eye out as you go round, especially just before you come off to join the A63.
Never stopped or seen anything obvious anywhere round Bayonne or Irun, but I suppose if you did a bit exploring you might find something.

If you get to Burgos this is a good hotel,
http://www.hotelciudaddeburgos.com/es/index_esp.html
not as expensive as it looks, resturant and some say there are other forms of entertainment nearby, loads of parking for trucks, we’ve had 6 artics in the car park with no problem. If you’re on the AP1 get off at junction 2, you’ll see it from the road anyway, and through the peage get onto the N1 towards Rubena.
If you get nearer Madrid loads of sign for hotels just off the motorway, we stopped at one called the Mavihotel signposted off the A1 at KM56,
loads of parking for trucks rooms clean and tidy and en suite, but only 20 euro per room, :open_mouth:  and a resturant there aswell.

Hope this helps.
If you have a better idea where you’ll stop I might be able to give you more inforamtion and an address if I’ve stopped there.

Can’t see a mention of running from Calais but I could easily do Castets from St Malo or Le Havre in my day lol!

Double manned can get to Madrid fruit market if you ‘push on’ lmao!

My point about Calais is a simple one to anyone who’d ever run double manned, what’s the point in waiting on a dock for hrs then on a ferry for another 5 hrs with your time ticking away. The only way to make the most of the time available is to take the shortest, quickest sea crossing and that’s gotta be the train, voila!!

I’ve never used St Malo but I’ve never got to Castetes on one card but (ehem, have got further  ) and of course didn’t the French love to see a permit at Irun with ‘todays date’ on it??
