Driving through Algeria on French TV

I wonder whether any of our colleagues who live in France saw the program on Channel Cinq on Sunday afternoon about a company, I think called Groupe SNTR, driving through the desert in Algeria?

Quite amazing what they got up to, driving for 11 days in convoy of about 30 trucks, mainly old Merc’s and Renault Majors, some tilts, some tanks, they seem to get more crazy as the time went by. Handing tea to eachother whilst on the move, weaving in their trucks across the desert whilst dancing, then getting out of the truck whilst its on the move, in low range, and play the matador with 40t of hardware, then jumping in and off they went.

It would be interesting to see it on UK terrestrial.

So, the next time you see a scruffy white Daf XF en-route to Spain, bored silly, offering you a cup of tea, take pity - but mind my mirrors!

Sorry I missed that Plambert, at the moment my French TV screen is blank due either to a knackered decoder or out of line dish and am considering whether to go digital or not.

They have some good programmes on Cinquieme which is French/German often in subtitles with each other’s languages.

Salut, David.

Yep I saw that programme, 'twas on ‘Arte’ last year - good to see all those old NG and SK Mercs cruising the desert. Did you notice that they took a wrecker with them in case they got stuck in the sand; seemed a smart idea with so many of them travelling together.

If any of you guys are watching French TV tomorrow night (Weds 20th) look out for a programme called Docs de shocs at 2240. Think it’s on M6. Part of the programme tells the story of Nairobi’s most dangerous road, with the trailer showing loads of trucking incidents. Should be worth watching.

Don’t suppose you videod (past participle of the verb ‘to video’, I think  ) it Craig? I must get my French setup sorted. Mind you we’d have to get a couple of headsets, the 2 tellys are side by side and I’d never be allowed to supercede East Enders etc!

Salut, David.

If anyone had videoed it perhaps DVD’s of it could become available…

Sorry David, we don’t have a French video so I couldn’t record it. I did however notice that our buddy in Switz has the full length version available on DVD:

Have a look at the trailer as it’s absolutely bonkers. Well worth purchasing, although it’s in French of course (even so you can still catch quite a bit of the dialogue due to the location in Kenya most people speak English). Not that French will be a problem for you David, thinking more of our UK-based folk.
