Not MMTM  - they will send you old one back with a hole punched through the photo if you request it and send a stamped self addressed envelope

As with anything sent to DVLA -
Scan both sides of everything into your PC
Printout copies and get them signed, if you can do so without cost, as being TRUE by a responsible person such as a Cop, GP, teacher etc

There are a lot of horror stories about the DVLA and mostly true but they don’t always get it wrong

I’ve never had a problem with them, when I renewed the photo on my license last year I had it back in a week and everything correct, when I renewed the license a couple of months ago I had it back in less than a week and again everything was correct

As said take scans of the license before sending it to the DVLA but don’t always expect the worst from the DVLA because they do get it right some times

You don’t actually need to send it back, just apply stating that your current licence is “lost”. That way if anything goes wrong you still have a valid licence.

(Not strictly legal I know)

And it will cost an EXTRA £20 !!

Photocard driving licence holder
Apply by phone

You can apply by phone if one or both parts of your photocard licence have been lost or stolen and none of your details have changed. DVLA accepts the following credit or debit cards - MasterCard, Visa, Eurocard or Maestro and the fee is £20.00. The telephone number is 0300 790 6801, Monday to Friday 8.00 am - 8.30 pm or Saturday 8.00 am - 5.30 pm.

You won’t be able to apply by phone if you are a paper licence holder or if your photo is due to expire or has expired.

Not an extra just the £20 you’ve got to pay anyway

Last time I called them on this issue they said it was one charge for EACH - one for replacement and one for photo renewal - but I’ll check again…
I rechecked and DVLA stated as you did - JUST THE ONE FEE OF £20
So that seems like the best idea - say the photocard is ‘lost’ when applying for the 10 year photograph renewal

That is a great idea mate! Thanks for sharing.

DVLA is holding my license again under investigation.

Last time this happened it took nearly 3 months to have my license back.

But I thought once they investigated whatever they want to investigate my ‘via crucis’ would be over.

But I was wrong. Everytime I send my license to DVLA even to change an address it takes forever as it always go to investigate.
